THE ANA MID WINTER SHOW REPORT

KEEP IN MIND THIS REPORT IS WRITTEN FROM OUR VIEWS AND EXPERIENCES AT THE SHOW. SINCE WE DEAL IN THE TOP 5% OF QUALITY, MANY OTHERS DO NOT AND WILL HAVE DIFFERENT REPORTS.

DUE TO THE FORCASTED BLIZZARD ON TUESDAY OUR OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED. WE CAN BE REACHED VIA EMAIL

THE SHOW

The location could not have been any better. However, due to the fact the ANA just “does not get it” the show was a bust. Anyone who tells you that for most of the show they could NOT roll a bowling ball down the isles is lying. Plus, the show has become such a turn off we would guess half of the west coast dealers did not even attend. In fact, maybe 1/4 of all the national size dealers were there. There simply was a limited draw of collectors.

We had figured the public would attend en mass and we were wrong. Dear ANA : it might be time to end the mid winter show to make the summer show stronger. EVERY dealer we spoke with (and we mean EVERY) at some point asked “what am I doing here”? So this show really was no reflection on the overall market.

BUSINESS FOR LEGEND

We arrived early -Tuesday afternoon. We had one appointment (it was not our regular secret first shot guy). This replacement buyer started us off good buying 2 gold coins for $30,000.00 total. Then much to our shock, out of the blue a dealer who we always wished would look at our coins texted us and we did some biz! He told us point blank: he could not find nice coins and knew we would have some. We started at 8:30 AM Wednesday with our regular “super secret buyer” (he had been out on a secret mission doing a deal Tuesday). He did his usual thing made piles and bought a lot. By the time the show set up actually started we are happy campers with our wholesale.

A funny thing happened at set up-we sold two deals worth a total of $375G to back to back buyers. Seems every dealer of our caliber was a buyer-actually a strong buyer. By the time 6 PM came around, we had sold just over $500,000.00. We had only figured we would sell $350,000.00 the whole show!  Thursday morning we did even more wholesale. The show opened at 10am, then everything pretty much stopped for us. Of course genius us, we left our NEWPS at home and the first two collectors who came to see us asked for them. We do thank and appreciate the husband and wife who still bought two of our NEWPS anyway.

By the end of Thursday we had a great show. Our line that best sums up our show “if it was gold-it sold”! The hottest seller for us was better gold at like 90 to 1. We even sold our Gold Round in PCGS MS65!  Dealers were starting to look at Type again too.

Also, while at the show, we did substantial internet business back in the office. We pretty much sold soup to nuts back home (including several five figure coins). That is very unusual to happen during a major show. Plus, between 3-4 PM on Friday back at the office (its so wild we usually have something happen at that time without fail), we bought two Want List coins that totaled $100,000.00! What a way to cap off an already strong week.

Up next: Baltimore. We know because of the auctions and location that show WILL have strong attendance and be a kick butt show! Whitman works really hard to make it great and cares about the dealers just as much as the public (unlike the ANA seems).

Speaking of auctions: LAST CALL for representation at all the sales in Baltimore. We have seen Pogue and will be viewing Blue Moon next week. Fair warning, we are going to be major players in both sales! Please contact Laura Sperber direct to discuss: lsperber1@hotmail.com.

A QUICK WORD ABOUT LEGEND NUMISMATICS

Seems we have been getting many new customers recently. We welcome you!

Legend is a full service dealership. We attend every major show and are consistently one of the biggest players in EVERY major auction. Few dealers to the public have the full pulse of the market like we do. Plus, very few dealers have the connections and resources that we have as well. If you seek really special and better then nice coins, that is us! We strive to sell only high end coins for the grade that have exceptional eye appeal. And we DO very much know what eye appeal should be (so many dealers have no clue).

Our specialty is working with collectors to build their specific collections. No dealer in the business today has built more classic REAL #1 collections -ALL the Bob Simpson sets (we are his exclusive dealer), The Morelan Bust, Seated, and Trade Dollar sets (the VERY best ever),  The LAW 3CS and Half Dime sets (which included the unique 70S) , The Coronet Set of Morgans (the former #1 set), just to name a few-that we can mention. Whether you just want a handful of beautiful coins, or the very finest collection, we can do it for you!

Do not hesitate to talk to us (we do not bite)!  You will find our factual style to be refreshing. We do not hype or need to just to make sales. Maybe that is why we fully describe coins on our web site vs others who just use stars or numbers. EVERY coin we sell to collectors via our web site are always PCGS CAC graded (we know of no one else who does that). We are also practically the ONLY dealer who has stood up and been a voice for the rights of collectors and consumer protection. We have been highly successful at building long term relationships and have many customers who have been with us over 30 years!

Again, welcome to Legend Numismatics
