As a long time collector, I appreciate the work CAC and the grading services do. Ultimately, however, I purchase coins that appeal to me. I should note that Ford, Eliasberg, Carter, Roper, Gardiner, Hayes, Picker, Bareford, Starr, Hawn, Pittman, and many others, have built very nice collections without the help of CAC, and in some cases, the grading services. Or, perhaps they were just lucky? I think ultimately collectors should buy coins that appeal to them, in the grade that suits their eye and budget.
