OCTOBER REPORT

THE MARKET IS FINE!

We really do not need shows to have a lot of energy or activity. This past week was total bliss for us. We expected nothing and did everything!
Doing everything includes finding a few impossible Want List coins, flipping some NEWPS, buying a few monster coins, and sales going extremely strong off our web site. In fact activity was so strong that at 5:00 Friday we had to drag ourselves out of the office dead tired while still completing a six figure deal via cell phone. Our sales were very close to $1,000,000.00 for the week! We sold several six figure rarities (most expensive $295,000.00) and even more five figure coins (including coins like the killer 25C 1876 PR68 CAC and the 1926 PR set). Smaller coins also flew off our web site.
As we have been saying forever, we just needed coins-the “right” coins to offer our customers (we still have HUGE Want Lists). This past week we finally had the opportunity to place a few great coins with a few “neglected” customers! We got lucky that we had a customer who was upgrading a few things and sold a few of his incredible duplicates. That was a great start. Then as fate would have it, we were in a good friends office and he plunks down a coin we had been looking for the past five years hard and heavy-a $5 1915S in GEM. WOW! It took us two days buy the coin, but we now have the second major GEM $5 set we exclusively built that is just two coins from completion (the set is ALL PCGS ALL CAC)! The best part-unlike so many sets you see, this customers set has NO dogs! We have NEVER accepted the wisdom of placing an inferior coin in a set just to fill a hole.
Last, activity off our web site was refreshing. All week we had numerous buyers. It felt good to see that happening. It felt even better placing great coins into great homes. Sure, its only one week, but we haven’t had activity this strong happen in a very long time (especially not after this years big FUN or ANA Shows).
The market is not taking off or anything like that-we killed ourselves over the pasat few months to make this great week happen. In fact we believe if anything, the market has put great coins “on sale”. Its still a buyers market. Paying too much today for a great coin WILL yield you strong results tomorrow. This is PROVEN over and over. The most important thing, the coins MUST be all there. You can NOT have so/so coin. Quality and eye appeal rule and always will.
GARDNER
His dupes are really interesting. Some of the duplicates would be anyone’s number one coin for their collection. We fully expect above average prices with a few coins selling for “moon money” as they are probably crack outs. The sharks are starved for really fresh coins and this collection certainly fits what they are looking for.
Monday is our final day we can accept representations. We’re booked on a lot of coins. We are looking forward to the sale and are coming in locked and loaded to buy!
NEWPS
OMG do we have some exceptional NEWPS. Not sure where to start. We have about 6-8 coins that are crazy gorgeous and top pops. Keep in mind, once this group has been sold, it very well can be back to tumble weed and slim pickings.
Highlights include:
5C 1925S PCGS MS65 CAC
25C 1890 PCGS MS67 CAC (AWESOME COLORS)
50C 1860 PCGS PR67 CAMEO CAC (WOW, WOW, WOW!)

* have not been to CAC
NOTE: we do reject coins. LRCA is managed by two world class numismatists who are VERY picky. The biggest problem we have are with colored Morgans. Folks, to earn the “moon money” prices, the coins have to be all there and then some. There are certain “looks” that will do it. So far, our rejection rate has been 65%. Average colored Morgans are not worthy of strong premiums. We’re going to be instituting a special toned Morgan section and we’re going to rank each coins colors. LRCA is clearly the market leader when it comes to selling wildly toned Morgans-and we plan on improving our services for them.
A note about CAC coins in our auctions. We do submit all the coins we have permission for to CAC. Sometimes, the coins owners do not care and so we do not know if a coin has been there (and sometimes we just run out of time to submit). If we send a coin and it is rejected, but we like it, we will mention the fact the coin flunked. That does not mean we do not like the coin. If we did not like the coin it never would have been accepted to our sale in the first place. We have NO special ties to CAC for any information or stickering. LRCA does try and be as fully transparent as possible in this and all important issues. Also, you can always just ask about the background of any coin in our sales.
Our consignment deadline for the December sale is fast approaching. We have over 250 coins we’ve accepted. We expect this to be one of our strongest “non collection” based sales ever! If you have coins you wish to consign, contact us NOW: Call or email Julie Abrams at julie@legendauctions.com or final call: the Baltimore show-however if we hit 500 lots before then, the auction is closed.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR WISH TO ORDER, PLEASE EMAIL US. WE DO NOT CHECK OUR PHONE MESSAGES UNTIL MONDAY 9 AM. email:
