This extremely delightful piece is an “old friend” we are glad to have back. It is one of the prettier and nicest 1856 GEM Proofs (save for the Simpson PR67) we have ever seen.
The mirrors are typical to moderate. These are not known to have flashy mirrors like PR coins from the 1880’s or 90’s. A wonderful and totally original mix of pale brown/gold/pale peach colors all swirl together on both sides. There are NO spots or discolorations. Every detail is razor sharp in strike and does present slight contrast. The eye appeal is fantastic!
PCGS 56, NGC 35, CAC 16. PCGS has graded only 5 coins finer. This coin also has photo seal approval. The last one to sell in auction brought $29,375.00 01/2016. Prior to that, these were selling for $32-$42,000.00 when you could find one.
This coin is REALLY SUPERB and is pretty. It is perfect for ANY GEM collection! “Old time” classic rarities like this have become ever so hard to find.
