50C 1897-S PCGS MS66 DUCKOR/AKERS

$14,750.00

We could not resist this amazing GEM. Having Akers as part of the pedigree is great-he had built so many great collections over the years that this coin we knew would live up to his great standards. This was in our 7/2017 Regency Sale. We waited and thought it went too cheap so we threw a bid in and happily bought it (remember Legend’s principals are two of the strongest auction buyers in the world, had this coin been in anyone else sale we’d have bought it). Here is the description from our sale: One of the key dates to the Barber half series, boasting one of the great pedigrees to the series: Akers-Duckor. The present GEM boasts a vibrant satin mint bloom that shines around chiseled, sharp devices. Hints of golden-peach iridescent toning add dimension and eye appeal. PCGS 2, NGC 3, CAC 3. It is indeed hard to believe that there are six coins graded finer at PCGS, since at the time of mintage, the collecting of coins by mintmark was in its infancy, so any of these superb coins exist by pure happenstance and luck than carefully preserved by some collector. This coin last sold for $11,500 in July 2009, after realizing $13,800 in April 2009. A superb coin, destined for another amazing collection of Barber halves. This coin brought $12,925.00. We just want to make sure it finds a great home!
