Okay, call this Market Report self serving. Its self serving reminder to all the smart collectors out there who understand markets.
Buying coins in today’s market is pure genius! You can not beat the price levels and the potential value that is being created. We believe the overall coin market is off 20-30% from 2008. There are some series-like MS Barbers where you will find coins off as much as 50%! We just bought a 50C 1907 PCGS MS66 CAC for $3,290.00 that is a pop 5 with only 2 higher. In 2013 one sold for a ridiculous $19,375.00 while another sold for $7,637.00 in 2014. We highly doubt a coin like this will fall any lower. In some series the punishments have been unjust and way too harsh. We think the market has bottomed. We do not know why people are still sitting on the sidelines on coins like this. We can’t imagine a coin like the 50C 1907 coin does not have at least a 15-20% upside in 1-2 years.
Look around at all the different series and see what has been hard hit. Many are clearly unfairly depressed. Trophy coins (especially if fresh) are always harder to buy-but in today’s market you are certainly NOT paying the ultimate top dollar. There is money to be made buying coins today. You can get so much value today-even in coins like generic gold. Build a gold Type set. Build a Silver or Gold Commem set. Or just buy MS64 $2.5 Indians at $700.00 each. Great values are all around if you just look. If we had to make a list it would include hundreds of coins-too many to list. Why wait until everyone else has jumped in?
We’re quality wonks. Paying premiums today for the very best quality in our opinion is the most genius move of all. On coins that are “off” or have been messed with, we remind you of the dealer saying: “buying cheap is not cheap enough”. Buy smart!
Last, the great collectors like Simpson, Gardner, Norweb, Pittman, never bought on speculation for today. They ALL bought the very best they could afford and made their purchases for tomorrow. You don’t have to be rich like them to think like them and have a secure numismatic investmentthat is highly profitable.
