THE PCGS DEC INVITATIONAL

LEGEND AND LEGEND RARE COIN AUCTIONS WISHES EVERY ONE HAPPY HOLIDAYS. OUR OFFICES WILL CLOSE DEC 24TH AND WILL REOPEN MONDAY DEC 28TH.

DECEMBER HAS NOT BEEN BAD-A HUGE SURPRISE!

First we must do our usual kudos to PCGS for running such a great little show. We can not stress enough that these shows are some of the BEST ones to do business at with the real movers and shakers of the business. We have not and will not miss any!
We had a surprisingly strong show-BOTH wholesale and retail. In fact retail wise we sold two coins (sometimes that’s more then a major show). One coin happened to be a great gold rarity for in excess of $200,000.00! We actually did well from the time we first entered the bourse room and saw our regular “first shot”secret buyer.  Our “super secret” seller did OK too. Overall, it was a every unexpected good show.
See below for a recap of how our auction did.
Back in the office it was quite. However, there too, we did confirm selling another major six figure rarity to a collector (we’ll say what it was in a few days).  Traffic to our web site was a little slow-but look what time of year it is (plus, we think our auction drained off a little activity).
We can not figure out why overall the first two weeks of December have been so good. After talking to more people, the Houston show was the start. At and around the Houston show there was a lot of buying and selling going on. We did see a lot of selling by collectors which had us slightly concerned. The flow seems to have stopped. Possibly what has happened is some better material finally came around. The market had been in such a drought for so long for better material (we know we have been dying for some) the coins spurred activity. For us, we placed 3 six figure coins and sold OVER  1,000,000.000-all in less then 2 weeks. We wish Christmas wasn’t coming around this year!
A NOTE ON THE SIMPSON COLLECTION
Every time Mr Simpson sells off coins he deems as extra we get calls and read silly gossip that he is bailing on coins. We want to assure you, he is not. Last Pogue sale alone he spent $8,200,000.00. All that is happening is he is changing direction. Like any true collector he tires of a few coins or series. The only difference when he sells his dupes or sets, they usually are bigger then most collections and people take notice.
No, the 1943 PDS copper set is not and will not be for sale. When you see him selling the $1 1866 No Motto Pattern, Gold Amazonian Set or his beloved $10 1920S PCGS MS67+, then be worried. Bob Simpson now absolutely has the FINEST collection in existence and he is NOT done! Mr Simpson is great friend of Legends principals and we are his exclusive dealer-so we know exactly what he is doing-do not believe any gossip!

LEGEND RARE COIN AUCTIONS
We thank everyone who participated for making the Regency 15 Sale such a success! The sales total was slightly over $2,500,000.00 (at this time of writing we do not have the audited figures).
There were not only a record amount of registrants, but we had the most people ever bid. We also set a record with LIVE internet participation during the actual sale. It was very exciting and we had a few bidding wars erupt!

HERE COMES FEBRUARY!
We’re in full consignment gathering mode for our Feb sale already. We have several tremendous coins already in house:
25C  1916 STD PCGS MS67 FH
50C 1803 PCGS AU58 CAC
$1  J-84 1838 PCGS MS65 CAC
Keep in mind, space is limited. We are very selective about the coins we allow in our sales-especially toned Morgans.
Also, we are firm on our minimums of $1,500.00 per coin (unless part of a six figure deal) with a minimum of $5,000.00 total. We also reject coins if we know the reserves are too high.
As you can see after 15 auctions, we clearly produce results! Your coins are not in the wrong zip code in a phone book size catalog. EVERY coin is imaged (both in our catalog and for the web site). We massively promote EVERY coin. We work harder for than any other auction house to produce results!
Our ultimate deadline for Feb is Friday of the FUN Show. However, if you have serious coins you want to get them to us NOW. We will display all the highlights we have at FUN along with having massive promotion going already.
If you have any questions either in general or about consigning, please call or email Julie Abrams at: julie@legendauctions.com
