50C 1870CC PCGS AU53

A very pleasing specimen of a very rare CC Half.

Slightly irregular but colorful old album toning of golden brown/and slightly streaky lavender evenly blankets both sides. The surfaces beneath are clean and show not visible marks. Miss Liberty and the details are very well struck. The eye appeal is pleasing overall.

54,617 were minted. Not many survived even in circ. PCGS 2, NGC 0. To date, PCGS and NGC combined have possibly certified ONLY 4 coins higher (MS the finest). Early last year, a PCGS AU sold in a major auction for $42,550.00 (Goldberg). The last major auction an AU53 was in one sold for $60,375.00 in 07/08 Stacks (this is NOT that piece). This coin was sold by private treaty to our consignor back in 2007 by Doug Winter.
