THE 2018 WORLD FAIR OF MONEY SHOW

THE SHOW

First, we must comment how the show has shrunk to the size of a regular Baltimore or Long Beach Show. Very alarming. However we are happy they finally came to their senses and put nice carpeting down in the premium section. Our hunch as that this show had  chance to be better the horrible Denver we all suffered through last year. Surprisingly, we were right! The 2018 WFOM was a decent show!..

ANA SHOW PREPARATIONS

IT’S HERE!

We are shaking our heads how fast the summer has gone. We are also shaking our heads how busy we have been up until a week ago. The ANA Show starts this Tuesday, so the summer is really over.

Collectors realize they can not let any good coin pass them. That big black hole has only grown and the supply of good and great coins has reached almost non existent proportions...

EARLY AUGUST REPORT

INTERESTING WEEK

Can not say we broke any sales records as it was extremely quiet this past week. It was the kind of week we expected to happen in early July. The hottest coin we sold was the $1 1803 Sm DT PCGS AU58+ CAC  (our coin of the week). Wish we had 4 of them!

We are preparing for the ANA show and auctions. Sunday we are lot viewing Stacks...

THE PCGS JULY INVITATIONAL

AS WE EXPECTED

The summer shows are never is well attended anywhere.  Add to that the fact PCGS is still really tight and many dealers stayed home licking their wounds (we have even heard of a few who needed and borrowed money). We were pleased to see that because of our auction, a small crowd of collectors did attend.  Activity overall was light. Our “super secret stealth seller” should have stayed home...

MID JULY REPORT

A MISCALCULATION

We had so much expected a quiet time in mid July we elected not to post or offer in any way a bunch of better coins we are holding. Our thoughts were the market would be in he doldrums and the coins would just languish. Last week was a very quiet week for us. We did realize collectors actually were out hunting. We did sell a few five figure coins,..

THE SUMMER FUN SHOW

A PERFECT SHOW

Always when you never expect anything to happen, some thing does. Our expectations of the show were to meet a few people and show off some auction highlights. Only the at the last minute did we decide to bring down 3/4 of a box of coins to sell. After the dust cleared, the FUN Summer show ended up as good as any major show.

We were shocked on Thursday how crowded it was...

JULY 4TH WEEK REPORT

Legend Numismatics has been following the horrible situation in Thailand with the trapped soccer team. We pray for their safe return. With the greatest experts in the world working on it, we can only pray they can get the job done. It was sad they lost a member of that team trying to save the boys. That man was a true hero. So far so good!

KABOOM!

That was the name of our favorite fireworks in Red bank NJ they used to have...

BYE BYE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF 2018

LEGEND NUMISMATICS WISHES EVERY ONE A SAFE AND GREAT JULY 4TH. OUR OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED JULY 4TH ONLY

FORGET ABOUT THE SUMMER HEAT

Save for one small stretch around tax time this was a HOT first six months of 2018. Legend Numismatics is on pace to have our best year since 2008 (when we did the $40 million dollar Pattern deal for Bob Simpson). That year we did a mind numbing $100 Million in sales!..

THE SUMMER BALTIMORE SHOW

THE SHOW

Maybe we were in a fog, but both attendance and sales were week. Of course it did not help the show was following Long Beach. We do not see that though as the full root of the problem.

First we must comment we are speaking from our lone perch. We’d bet there were several smaller dealers who had great shows but we do not know of a single bigger player who did any significant retail...

THE LONG BEACH SHOW

STRANGE BUT GOOD

We had a great show overall, but activity at tables was overall slow to non existent. Attendance by collectors was okay, but we sure did not see heavy spending-nor did any of our peers. On Thursday we  sold 3 coins total for  $350,000.00 (2 coins were $95,000.00 each to collectors) which was pretty much our entire retail at the show. However, our “super secret stealth seller” had a strong show (breaking news just in) correct that he had a MONSTER show and sold around $800,000.00! ..

PRE LONG BEACH REPORT

HERE THE WEATHER IS NOT SO HOT-BUT IN OUR OFFICE IT IS SCORCHING!

For the first 9 days of June, our sales have far exceeded what we had expected.  Even more surprising, so has our purchasing. Just a few weeks ago were starting to moan about little to no supply and how it could slow down the market. Not for us any more! Since June 1st, Legend has bought OVER $1,500,000.00 worth of the last things in the world we ever expected to buy-better PCGS CAC gold! ..

EARLY JUNE MARKET REPORT

WHAT WE SEE HAPPENING

May was a far better month then we expected. Legend Numismatics had really strong sales, while Legend Rare Coin Auctions had a record breaking sale. The world has not gone mad for coins. However, the economy is clearly stronger, unemployment is low, and with all its gyrations, the stock market seems to be moving forward again. That means there is money to be spent out in the world...

WHERE DID MAY GO?

We were so busy all month we could not lift our heads up to check the calender. Poof! May is pretty much done. While we don’t have final numbers, it looks like the Legend companies (legend+legend auction)  sold over $8,500,000.00 worth of coins...

THE NEW ORLEANS PCGS INVITATIONAL

Legend Numismatics deeply regrets having to open this Market Report mentioning the passing of a great guy and respected dealer Charlie Browne. We are totally heart broken. Charlie had battled an illness for many years. At least he was able to keep doing what he was both talented at and loved until the end-being a coin dealer. Our hearts and prayers go out to Charlie, his family, and John Brush and the DLRC family. We lost one of the absolute true “great guys (not just good) dealers...

EARLY MAY

ACTIVITY IS GOOD

It never ceases to amaze us how when we put up a large group of NEWPS (vs a small group) activity in the beginning starts off so slow. It took until Wednesday for sales to start rolling. When activity started, it was like a train speeding up. We even did two bigger sales Friday afternoon. In the end, our sales were well over $500,000.00 for the week. With no shows or any big deals happening,..
