LEGEND NUMISMATICS WILL BE AT TABLE 1001 AT THE CSNS SHOW

TIMED IT REALLY RIGHT

It only took 40 years in biz to figure our every April things slow to stop around tax time. This year we semi took off for the first two weeks of April. We even went to the Long Beach Grand Prix and got our pics snapped with Mario Andretti (and Laura who is trying to fly much less broke 2,000,000  miles on the way there)...

BREAK TIME

QUIET TIME

Sort of. The principals of Legend are taking a much needed short break during the April 15th tax time. Things usually get quiet now anyway. Plus, we picked up two substantial deals that need to be processed and they won’t be ready for a week or so. And last week we switched our web site server or something and as many of you know, it did not go well (we think all the bugs are now fixed)...

FIRST WEEK OF APRIL

NOTE: WE ARE HAVING SOME ISSUES WITH OUR WEB SITE. WE ARE WORKING TO FIX THINGS ASAP.

ALL IS QUIET ON THE HOME FRONT

After a staggering amount of business in Q1, we welcome a little down time. Even though the market is very strong, tax time usually slows things for a week or two. For the next 10 days we are doing some heavy travel to pick up some cool deals...

END OF Q 1 2018

SO FAR SO CRAZY

We did not expect much to happen this past week. In fact, we did not think we’d even sell $100,000.00. BAM! On Friday we found out we had sold over $500,000.00 with out trying. The biggest coin sale started as a matter of fact call-the $20 1857S PCGS MS67 CAC for in excess of $150,000.00. The it was just boom, boom, boom all week with the average coin being valued at $30,000.00...

THE WINTER/SPRING BALTIMORE SHOW

SPRING HAS SPRUNG FOR SURE

Well sort of. We thought for sure the major Nor easter forecast for Tue/Wed of the show would have killed if off. One way you could tell the market was strong-every major player arrived in by Tuesday. If we had to guess, less then 1/4 of the dealers who normally attend could not make it. Even more shocking-collectors did turn out in force Thursday. Friday and Saturday was quiet...

THE MID MARCH REPORT

VISIT LEGEND AND LEGEND RARE COIN AUCTIONS AT THE BALTIMORE SHOW

ACTIVITY IS STRONG

Across the board activity is still strong. We did an amazing big deal (to be announced later)  and we know of 2 other dealers who placed some amazing six figure coins as well. As the coins pop up, the really nice ones especially go right off the market. The only “slower” pockets we still see reside on MS Type-Seated coins...

THE ANA MID WINTER SHOW

THIS ANA SHOW WAS A SURPRISE

We had expected this to be such a bad show half our staff left Thursday night. Good thing we did-we were told by multiple sources Friday was dead. HOWEVER, the show was strong on Thursday and wholesale was even better before the show opened. OUR only complaint, the show was not near any hotel.

On Thursday the small room was crowded. This was a rare event where collectors actually out numbered dealers for a short time...

MARCH MADNESS EDITION

MARCH CAME IN LIKE A LION

We are surprised that the strong wave of activity from January and February has remained unbroken. In fact, it seems only to be gaining momentum. We knew when the stock market began wavering, people would start looking to other areas to park some money. Now, we are feeling a small pinch of that money coming in. There is NO euphoria or speculation. Its just hard nosed collectors stepping up their games...

THE FEBRUARY LONG BEACH SHOW

AN UNEXPECTED GREAT SHOW-ALMOST LIKE OLD TIMES

We can not believe how intense this show was. For us, we had a really strong show. In fact, it was our BEST show in 2-3 years (but no where near any record levels)!

It was like a projectile from outer space hit. While overall attendance was good, there actually was some retail to be done...

PRE LONG BEACH SHOW REPORT

MUCH BETTER WEEK

The prior week we wrote about how quiet things were. This week we have to say activity was strong and in certain areas totally unexpected.

All of the sudden regular Type picked up. Maybe its because we are extremely low on gold (although we do see many people who have started Type sets). One day we sold TWO GEM Bust Quarters -25C 1831 PCGS MS566 CAC and a 25C 1834 PCGS MS65+ CAC...

A QUIET WEEK

THE PAST WEEK

We had no major blockbuster sales or deals happen. Out side of the fact we had 8 Early $5 pieces in AU-MS62 (ALL PCGS ALL CAC) fly out with multiple buyers left waiting, we were quiet. The correction in the stock market clearly froze or captured many peoples attention. As has happened before, life will return. Only this time, it will be even a more powerful surge as prices in coins MUST go up to satisfy any significant new demand...

IS A BULL MARKET BEGINNING?

HAPPY DAYS ARE SORT OF HERE AGAIN

After all the stress and worry, we ended up having a far better then expected January. From what we heard from our peers, most did as well. The near shut down of Nov-Dec is still fresh in everyone’s mind. So it would not have taken much to recover-but everyone’s numbers (including ours) were still stronger then expected.

Now the questions is, what will happen?..

THE JANUARY LAS VEGAS INVITATIONAL

AS ALWAYS

We love these intimate yet intense shows. For whatever reason, we do so much better at these then most of the big shows. We had no real expectations since FUN was only 2 weeks ago. Dealer attendance was actually lighter then we expected. Several of the larger “chop shops” are trying to bully PCGS a little and are not participating because grading has been so tight. We think this is great...

MID JANUARY REPORT

LIFE IS GOOD?

We’re not talking about Jake on the Life is Good T shirts. We’re talking about what we see happening in the coin market. LIFE IS GOOD!

Recently, major shows have become pain pits to us that send us home defeated and scared. We can sell, but it becomes horribly frustrating to buy. Overall activity at shows (large shows) in our opinion, has dwindled if you deal in higher caliber coins...

POST FUN WEEK

THIS REPORT IS WRITTEN FROM LEGEND NUMISMATICS EXPERIENCES AND OBSERVATIONS-Legend deals in the top rarities and top 5% of quality

A GOOD WEEK

We had a very active week. From the day we started posting NEWPS (Saturday AM) until our seemingly usual Friday afternoon sale we enjoyed strong activity. Collectors from all walks of life were buying. Obviously we wish we had more coins!

Every thing was selling...

FUN 2018 SHOW

THE SWITCH HAS BEEN FLICKED ON

Such a rough business. We crawled out of 2017 shaking our heads as to how a great year could end so wrong. We did not really know what to expect at the FUN Show. Of course when you have meager expectations, you get strong results. While no where near a record show, it was a really good show and was highly refreshing for us. We actually did a few hundred thousand worth of retail-something we have not done at ANY show in the past year to 2 years...
