5C 1913 TYI PCGSMS68, 1913D TYI PCGS MS67+, 1913S TY I MS67+

$59,500.00

In our opinion, these 3 Buffalos rank among the finest toned pieces we have ever seen. We felt it was ultra cool to keep a PDS set like this intact. We can not imagine a finer set like this could ever be built. We’re going to be a little lazy and provide you with the descriptions and prices realized from our December Sale: 5C 1913 TY I PCGS MS68 CAC A truly spectacular way to begin this great collection of Buffalo nickels. Virtual perfection! A bold strike has left every detail fully rendered, from the Indian’s braid and feathers. All the definition of the bison’s head, haunches, and the mound that he stands on are seemingly chiseled they are so sharp. In addition to an amazing strike, the luster radiates a vibrant satin bloom that bursts through the soft rainbow iridescent toning. This coin is about as perfect as you could hope to find in a circulation strike Buffalo! Not only is the technical quality all there and then some, the eye appeal is nothing short of superb. PCGS 17, NGC 13, CAC 5. There are NONE graded finer at either service. It has been over two years since the last PCGS MS68 CAC ‘13 Type 1 nickel has sold in an auction sale, and that coin, which realized $15,275 (in a September 2014 auction) had no where near the exceptional eye appeal that this monster coin has. A few months earlier one sold for $22,325. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $14,000, and there is almost no doubt in our minds that this coin will far exceed that level. Our consignor notes that he had purchased five different 1913 Type 1 nickels to include in this set before finding this one that had the absolute best color and eye appeal. As the collector who will end up with this SUPERB GEM, be glad that he took the time and effort to locate this one so you won’t have to. We expect fiercely spirited bidding competition not just from the Buffalo nickel specialists, but from type collectors as well. Price realized: $28,200.00 5C 1913D TYI PCGS MS67+ CAC Another spectacular Type 1. The strike is bold and strong throughout on both sides; each device is seemingly sculpted out of the planchet. A very pretty pastel iridescent bullseye pattern shows clear periwinkle around a center of a pinkish-orange rose. The brilliantly satin frost truly catches the light and brings the hues to life. The technical quality of this superb gem is incredible, and this coin has a look that will make even the most jaded collector fall in love. PCGS 71, NGC 17, CAC 25. Only 4 of the 71 MS67s at PCGS have been assigned the coveted “+”, and there are none at NGC. Only three are graded MS68 combined between PCGS and NGC (and neither is CAC approved). NO MS67+ has ever sold in auction. The most recent regular 67 sold for $2,350 in December 2015, and the only MS68 to sell in auction brought $32,200 a dozen years ago. PCGS suggests a value of $3,750, but fundamentally, this seems too low, as even regular 67s have sold in the $4,000-$6,000 range in the last five years. This is likely the highest grade example that will be available for quite a long time. If you are building a top tier Registry Set of Buffalo nickels, or just appreciate beautiful SUPERB quality type coins, be sure to bid on this amazing 13-D. Price realized: $8,812.50 5C 1913S TY I PCGS MS67+ CAC Beautiful rings of iridescent rainbow toning grip the rims of both the obverse and reverse of this stunning 13-S Type 1. While the centers are mostly nickel-silver, they are haloed by superb rings of rose, orange, gold, and hints of aqua. The strike is bold, all the details on both sides are accentuated by the glowing satiny mint frost. A wonderful capstone to the 1-year only subtype; this and the previous two lots would make a very special mini-collection on their own! PCGS 26, NGC 17, CAC 10. Only TWO are graded MS67+ at PCGS, and only a single MS68 is finer at that service (at NGC there is a single 67+ and one 68). This will be the first 67+ to sell in auction from either service. The last PCGS 67 CAC to sell brought $5,640 in May 2015, and an NGC MS68 sold for $12,650 back in January 2012. The PCGS Price Guide value is currently listed at $9,500. Our consignor notes that this is the best example of the date that he has ever seen. Clearly this coin is very choice for the grade. Until one day in the future the sole PCGS MS68 is sold, this will likely be the FINEST 13-S Type 1 you will have a chance to bid on. Good luck. Price realized: $14,687.50 When you see this coin in hand, your heart will race and your eye balls WILL pop out and roll around. These are clearly among the most beautifully tone Buffalos you will ever see. We make no bones about it-Legend Numismatics has handled the finest US coins on the planet-and these coins totally have us smitten! The toning is 100% original-and you know CAC is a stickler for genuine color (if they think there is even a 1% chance of AT-they will not bean a coin). All the hard work is done for you. You can sit back and enjoy these numismatic masterpieces.
