Recently there was a small 183-lot estate auction of coins. The seller was a nationally known auction company for toys and guns. They got the deal because they did really well with the collector’s train set. The sale consisted of many higher-grade white Morgans and one of the biggest groups of Mormon gold anyone had seen in a long time. We had even sold a few coins to the collector way back in 2018. Virtually all the coins were PCGS. Many of the coins had CAC beans too!
We spent nearly $300,000.00 at the sale. While well attended by top dealers, not all the big guys knew of the sale. Good for us! Finally, we were able to purchase some coins that were in high demand and priced below the current market levels. Talk about demand for white CC Morgans, we just mentioned the fact we had them soon to be posted in our last Market Report, and we sold almost two full sets (no 79CC or 89CC). We do still have many great coins from this deal-check out our NEWPS. We admit we do have a few coins out for grading. The demand for CC Morgans in MS 65 and higher is HUGE right now. If you come across a TRUE GEM CAC WHITE coin, be prepared to pay a premium! Collectors just can’t get enough of them.
The rest of the market is doing fine. Circulated stuff and cheaper “widgets” are still selling strong (always remember, looks are everything). Dealers who sell on platforms like Whatnot create an endless demand for those coins. They can sell a single whizzed circ dollar for $40.00 or a GEM 25C 1928S PCGS MS66 FH CAC piece for $3,300.00. At first we thought it was all a fad; now we see these apps as the new entryway for people to find out about rare coins. EBay used to be the entry point up until recently. The public goes anywhere it can find live action, and these apps provide it. We cannot emphasize enough how rapidly the black hole, where coins disappear, is growing.
Legend has no plans on being on any of these apps at the moment. However, we are looking into upping our footprint on social media.
A note on gold: We like the fact it stopped racing to the moon in a day. We cannot see gold dropping below $3,000.00. The bulls (including our local Wall Street pals) are still VERY bullish on gold. We are too.
We still LOVE PCGS MS65 CAC Saints below $4,000.00, and we LOVE PCGS MS66 CAC Saints below $6,000.00. MS 66 Saints did not move much in price during the run-up. We can see them much higher in a short period of time.
We are still living by the mantra “If it’s gold, it is sold.” However, we really need one for WHITE PCGS CAC CC Morgans too!

Sometimes, it is a myth that selling at auctions is effective. For cheaper coins (below $50,000.00), not only can we get them sold, but most of the time we can net you MORE than what you’d get selling them at auction! That is a fact. Cheaper coins just get lotted and get little premium exposure. With us, we have BOTH eager dealers and collectors who want to see every coin we have.
Because we are so low on the great coins we need, the first part of this year, we made our living selling collectors’ duplicates and other coins you would never think Legend would handle. Forget PCGS CAC; we handle NGC, ANACS, etc.
