Originally, we knew wanted to own this coin when we first laid eyes on it. However, we did not realize how rare it was nor what it would cost. But after an hour of doing research, we bought it. You’d think it would be an easier date to find in SUPERB GEM-NOT! We rank the coin VERY HIGH END!
Superior surfaces are clean and smooth. Even the dreaded right reverse is clean. The only mark we could find -when using a strong glass is a HIDDEN tiny cut on the reverse in the letters (if we did not tell you, you would not know). We think that is all that keeps this marvelous coin from a 66+. The luster is moderate (these do not come like 1927’s). Both sides are an even totally original warm gold color. There are no spots or discolorations. All of the details are very well struck. The eye appeal is fantastic!
PCGS 16, NGC 26, CAC 4. In 02/2023 one sold for $45,600.00 in a major auction. The price guides are clueless on this date and grade for sure. A tremendous rarity to add to any top set!
