If it’s gold, it’s sold! We’re still riding a gold coin wave, with last week’s sales overwhelmingly dominated by gold. Collector demand has stayed strong, though generic gold has made up only a smaller portion of sales. We even sold a few rare pattern coins (non-gold, of course)! October turned out far better than we’d expected, defying our worries about a slow month without major shows or auctions.
With the big Baltimore Show only two weeks away and auction dates set, sales would usually be slowing down. To our surprise, they haven’t. Many of the world’s top coins have found their way into private collections, unlikely to surface for ages, leaving auctions with limited excitement. That’s why collectors are still on the hunt, actively browsing dealer sites for unique finds.
The dip in generic gold sales is nothing to worry about—it’s just a chance for us to restock. We’re also working on several deals to trade bullion for generics. Gold prices flirted with the $2,800 mark but haven’t broken through yet, which could signal a peak. We still recommend trading into generics, especially PCGS CAC MS65 Saints and PCGS NO CAC MS66’s for strong upside potential, along with premium gold picks.
If you spot any rare coins, grab them! Avoid the auction frenzy, where premiums can cost you 20%, versus a dealer’s typical 10% margin. Plus, a good dealer will often offer a buyback guarantee, unlike auction houses. Something to think about!
