It had been sleeply since July began. We feared that Covid 19 finally doomed the coin market. While it is for sure hurting us with no shows, collectors have been waiting for great coins to appear. Right now, single coins are not even showing up. You have a ton of internet auctions with lesser coins and that is about it. Then our Regency 39 sale came along.
It was the quiet before the storm. Legend Numismatics did virtually no business from July 6th until Friday 17th. We were freaked. Then we realized a double whammy-the auction and tax time. We watched as the auction gained momentum. We had RECORD eye balls, RECORD bidders, RECORD winning bidders. Our Legend customers all came out in force for the sale (which this happens vs us selling is a mystery). LRCA could have had the sale nearly a week before its date with the bids it had and still set record prices.

NO question prices overall were STRONG. Bigger gold actually sold (vs having been slightly weaker in Pogue). The highlight of the sale was the G $1 1855 PCGS PR65 DC CAC. It brought $329,000.00. The $20 1907 HR FE PCGS MS67 CAC Duckor/fox brought $258.500.00. There were so many coins with serious action we broke our own rule-never to have an auction go into the twilight hours. We apologize and will try and make sure that does not happen again.
Most important, 92% of all coins bought in the sale-went to collectors. There is a difference between internet auctions and a boutique like Legend-we get the the ultimate results.
BACK TO REGULAR BUSINESS
Collectors just love auctions. BUT, they should be aware sometimes you can get better deals buying straight from a dealers web site. Plus, any dealer worth their salt will back up the coin and hopefully make a 2 way market when you need to resell it.
In fact, Legend Numismatics needs to buy coins. We need slightly better coins and will buy and entire collection if need be. We can auction/consign or buy your coins. Call or email us with what you have. There really is that little available. We do NOT see any flood (or even a trickle) of great coins entering the market any time soon. The ANA sale are a little light.
We are a little frustrated that we have some great coins not selling as fast as they should. Example: our $20 1876 PCGS MS64+ CAC. If you are building a Type set, you need this coin. And its incredible. Next step up is way into six figures-if you can even find one. We have a gorgeous 5C 1938-D PCGS MS68 loaded with color. In an auction it would bring strong money for sure.
