THE LAS VEGAS PCGS INVITATIONAL

A NOTE FROM LAURA SPERBER

Do know this is one of the toughest reports for me to write. George Huang, the co founder of Legend and my business partner for 31 years had a very serious heart attack Friday. He is currently in Intensive Care Unit in a NJ hospital. George always did everything within his power to stay healthy-this comes as a huge shock to everyone. He is 55 years old. The doctors have said he got to the hospital in the nick of time. I miss him dearly and am praying for a speedy and complete recovery.

He can not accept flowers or gifts. NO calls. He has more surgery to do. You can try to email him at legend@legendcoin.com. Today however he wasn’t feeling up to doing anything. I am in daily touch with him and if there are any major changes I promise to let everyone know.

If you have any questions or wish to relay something to him, please email me: lsperber1@hotmail.com

P.S. to clarify my semi-retirement:  I am deathly afraid of flying. Last year I flew 220,000 miles. I want to do only half of that or less. I will still be in the office 4 days a week (not 6). I will still accept representation in ALL major auctions, and I will be at all major shows. Things like Las Vegas, I will cut down on attending. I might attend one less Legend Auction. Even with George out for some time,, I do not plan on any significant changes for myself or Legend Numismatics (he was actually semi retired since 2014). We will be announcing a major hire for the auction company next week.

THE SHOW

The PCGS Invitational was everything we expected it to be-DULL. PCGS held the line (a good thing) so they were not making junk. The dealers we saw were very frustrated. So NEWPS for every one for a while will be low. Plus not a lot of dealers attended due to the holidays. Not every show can be the best and greatest of action and coins made.

We came home happy. We had a few big crossovers and we actually did some strong wholesale.

THE MARKET OVERALL

We see no slow down for nice fresh coins. The demand is as strong as ever. Prices are still only creeping up due to a lot of dreck (which is going away coin by coin). At some point the rubber band WILL break and prices WILL move significantly overnight. Even on a coin like a PCGS W/M CAC MS67 Saint-when is the last one you saw, and how much did it sell for?

Legend Numismatics will have the most sales in our history over the last 30 days (with exception of buying the Southern Pattern Collection for $36 million fro Bob Simpson in 2008). So long as we can get the right coins, we see no end of the demand (our kind of demand) in sight.

NEWPS

Our NEWPS are all now posted. Sorry, we could not get an image of the $20 1904. Take our word on it-really nice coin.

We hope to offer a few coins of the week Wed. And we expect to be back to a normal schedule next week.

In fact, next week we will offer some beyond amazing PCGS CAC Morgans. Stay tuned!
