WHO IS LEGEND?
While many of you have known us for many years, there are many new people who do not. So we want to reintroduce ourselves.
Legend Numismatics consists of three individuals. George, Jose, and Laura. Bruce Morelan is a silent partner. Laura and George have been partners since 1986! Laura has been dealing full-time in coins since 1979 and George since 1986. Together we have built some of the most amazing collections ever—Morlan, Simpson, Half Dome (the finest 20th-century gold set), and many others. We have sold more coins—over $1 million—than anyone outside of the auctions. Besides all the big stuff, we have helped thousands of collectors over the years of all sizes build their outstanding collections. We want to make it clear: you do not have to be a big shot to have our attention. We just helped someone complete a PR66/67 Barber Dime set! Having a blank canvas to build a collection or box of 20 is what we live for. Here is a compliment we got last week:”Hi Laura, I received the 3 Stacks coins today. I love all of them! They all really stand out to me as quality. This is a great group of coins that are exactly what I am looking for. Thank you!” We can not help ourselves by buying only the BEST coins for the grade. We do NOT hype our coins (see below). We knew long ago there were not many dealers who you can trust or who are more than just marketers. We set out to make sure we were 100% trustworthy—and clearly are today. It’s in our DNA not to cheat or lie.
Have to mention Jose Campos, who many of you interact with. He has been with us for 20+ years! He is the heartbeat of our business. He handles all the administration. You would be shocked as to how swamped he gets on Mondays and Tuesdays. He also occasionally likes to make sales. We rank him as one of the top admin people in the biz!
How we buy: People who do not know us think we ask a lot for our coins. This is not true at all. When we post, “This coin is posted at our best price”—we mean it. Why? because we famously work closely. In many cases, we are making 5–8%. We happen to do a big volume, so we can stomach that—sort of like retailers in the world absorbing tariffs. We just can’t pass up bigger coins that are super rare and have everything we require. Unfortunately, we must pay OVER the sheets (which is now VERY common). Obtaining these coins, even at strong prices, is what collectors need to build great collections. Our customers do not regret buying these coins. And, for sure, we want to buy these pieces back one day.
Last, when you deal with Legend, know you are being guided and are getting the best advice from 2 people who have been known entities on the bourse floor for nearly 40 years. We have a PROVEN track record that few dealers can ever match. Everyone makes claims, but we really have bought and sold OVER $1 billion dollars worth of the BEST coins. So we know what is good and bad to buy and what needs to be avoided. There are many times when we advise collectors not to buy a coin (especially when representing people in auction). How many dealers do that? We have really seen it all and done it all. For us, it’s all about building long-term relationships and trust. There are several collectors who we have been dealing with for OVER 30 years!
As we get ready for our 40th year, Legend has plans to be in business for a very long time. We just hope we can find the coins to do so! The market is changing in a way we have never seen, where demand far outstrips supply. One thing we will NOT do is lower our standards. Legend will keep offering collectors ONLY PCGS CAC and CACG coins as long as we are in business. The other stuff—we wholesale to dealers. Take our word on it, we do not want to end up wholesalers (which is 10% of our business these days). We LOVE our customers too much!

DOES LEGEND HYPE ITS COINS?

A WORD ABOUT OUR DESCRIPTIONS
“We heard a few mumblings about how some collectors feel we “hype” our coins. NOT TRUE AT ALL.
We do not know of many other dealers who not only handle exclusively PCGS CAC or CACG coins but also hand-pick every one. We do NOT just rely on a coin being beaned. ANY coin we buy MUST be exceptional. That is our DNA. We don’t want to just offer any old MS65 or MS66. Our history of building some of the greatest collections—Simpson, Morelan, Black Cat, Coronet, etc.—should serve as proof as to the type of coins we sell. It is not about a coin being expensive; it is about the coin itself. If we see a monster DMPL that typically sells for $2,000.00, we will pay $3,000.00 if that is the asking price. The types of coins we sell can NOT be bought cheap.
Middle-of-the-road coins are really not our thing. So you will see many HIGH-END coins listed. Here is what our descriptions mean:
HIGH END: a coin that is an A-. It is not in the middle of the road. But it is not knocking on the next grade up. Of course it has outstanding eye appeal.
VERY HIGH END: a sexy and great-looking coin. Typically these coins are non + coins we wonder why they did not +. They are for sure closer to the next grade up vs. the next grade down.
SUPER HIGH END: knocking on the next grade. Has really strong eye appeal—not just HIGH-END looking. We assure you, if we call it SUPER HIGH END, it’s better than most, and you want to own it.
The fact is, ALL our coins are handpicked for their outstanding qualities and eye appeal. We do reject many coins for our offerings. The rest are wholesaled to dealers. Our return rate from collectors is maybe 1%, and we sell tens of millions of dollars to serious collectors! Collectors do not realize that before a show starts, the biggest crack-out dealers want to see our coins. It’s an honor; they always make time for us. There is an obvious reason for that.”
