A QUIET WEEK
Not sure what happened. Maybe it was the bad weather or people are getting ready for the Long Beach Show and Auctions. We had a very quiet week every which way save for one Want List (found a six figure coin). We did six figures in sales, but the action was spotty at best (call us spoiled).
Until last now, activity across the board had been strong and above average for the time period. We are not changing our forecast of a good quarter for the market. The demand is still there.
Our biggest concern right now is supply. Sure we can find a few coins here and there, but the majority of what we really need (all $20 million in Want Lists-we can not find at all). These days all we get offered by people seems to be high priced unexciting coins we do NOT need. For us, with out finding specific coins (like the $10 14D PCGS MS67 CAC or the $1 1851+1852 PCGS MS64 CAC coins that we recently placed) our business slows to a drip-even with a million dollar plus inventory. We’ll stock coins we like and forget-it may not be what is selling in the marketplace at that time. Its kinda wired but consistent how the market flows if you have a web site. Auctions, never seem to slow.
There really are many sets being built right now-maybe too many as we hear multiple Want Lists for items (like $10 1933 PCGS MS64, the best 5C Lib Proofs, and high grade Indian Cents). Legend has a dozen MAJOR collections under construction that are NOT registered we are currently building. There really IS that much activity out there these days. Which is why we are so bullish on the market for the first few months of the year. So this past “off” week was just a blip. We are also predicting Long Beach WILL be a good show.
