THE 4TH OF JULY WEEK

PATRIOTISM

We love this week (not just because staff gets 4 day weekend). We love the celebrations and all July 4th brings. Having our independence (in our opinion) is priceless. We respect our flag and all that it stands for. Legend Numismatics hopes everyone is having a safe and great July 4th holiday!  On to coins now.

Last Saturday we had orders for far more coins then we thought we’d send out during the entire week. We will admit during the week was very slow for us. All price levels are still sought after. We are even more surprised how much the top end of the market is alive. If we could find the coins, we would sell then instantly. Watch what will happen at ANA. You will see some wicked cool coins auctioned bringing wicked crazy prices. Your head will spin! This is why buying in real “off” times like now (vs the heat) is the smartest thing to do (if you can find the right coins).

THE GOLD MARKET

Yes gold took an ouchie dip this week. Remember. you are supposed to buy on the dip. It broke through a huge plateau at $1,400.00 recently. All the Wall Street experts we have spoken feel strongly gold will be back. They back their beliefs with purchases. Do note, what we say here does not mean anything will happen. We think they are just deep down gold bugs like us. But when they buy, they do not buy a single bar or coin, they spend thousands to millions.

There are still many semi generics that are still cheap. We still highly recommend building a gold Type set. That way you can pick what you put in (it can be a rarity, or common coins). We do see a few under $10,000.00 coins that are around that make sense. We still LOVE $5 Indians (PCGS CAC onl)  in MS65. How about building a $2.5 set in MS64 or MS64+. It can be done and many of the coins now are just too cheap. Even though there are a few people hoarding them, we have taken down all our bids on MS66+ Saints (we feel the market is too high).

Gold coins just never lose their popularity. It is only a matter of market timing when you buy. Much better gold-real rarity gold, is expensive but as time has proved is fully worth the price. The key is buy the coins for the long term. And buy ONLY PCGS CAC for the quality and security.

LEGEND NUMISMATICS WILL HAVE A TABLE AT THE FUN SHOW THIS WEEK-STOP BY AND SAY HI!

CONTRATS TO ALL OF OUR CUSTOMERS

Last week was the ridiculous rush to fill in collections for the registry sets. While we have several really big collectors who do not want to engage in the hype, we have many collectors who love it and enjoy the challenge. Legend is NOT and has never been a fan of the registries. It drives us nuts when we have to live with inferior coins ranking ahead of the quality we sell. It is NOT right.

In one area, Complete Barber Type set-especially, we tied for #1 ( we clearly have built the #1 set based on quality) and own the next 3 slots! The difference between ALL of our collectors coins and all others-They are ALL PCGS CAC! Plus, EVERY coin  is all wildly toned and has incredible eye appeal and of course, monster quality. So congrats to our 3 collectors (Simpson,  Black Cat, and RSD) who strive to own the very finest. A special congrats to Mr Young who snuck in there undetected to be the new #1! You bet Legend worked with them all exclusively to reach those lofty positions.

One day there needs to be a real registry that does both PCGS an CAC. That will help tremendously separate the real quality from the plastic coins. At the top it means everything.

AAAAH THE PNG

Our favorite pathetic group in all of coins. Time to chat about them again.

Congrats to us! We were denied a table this year. They want only pure bred PNG members to be allowed in. We hated taking tables, no collectors ever came, but it was a place to store our coins and prepare/set up for ANA. The elite leaders patrol the show like soldiers and love to bam people if they are a foot over the line or something. We always laughed at the them members who wore suits. In many cases, it was like trying to make dirt clean!

We will say this, the PNG is a total DISGRACE still. They made some kind of pledge to fight coin doctoring. Really? They have SEVERAL world class coin docs still as members. This is even more  of a disgrace, look at who is on the board, those people know who they are. They know two were recently caught big time, they know a few others who have not stopped. Yet they choose to turn a blind eye.  So if no one complains directly they won’t act. Pure BS. So these losers get away with it. The PNG knows who they are-do something! Show real moxie instead of groveling for new members so you can have a bigger dinner each year. Is there a single thing the PNG has accomplished that really helps the hobby?

Legend Numismatics and Legend Auctions chose never to become members. We choose to be viewed by the PNG as pond scum. We will never work with a group who does not take any real actions unless its in their best interest. We have never seen them give a hoot about collectors. They are just disgusting to us, Sorry, boys (and it is an old time boys club) in case you have not noticed, we do not need your lousy emblem.

We highly doubt the PNG (when Laura was an ANA gov, she fought for them not to have their day, but both the ANA and PNG are weak and need each other) will have a rip roaring show. The few tables are not a sight to see. For the life of us, we do not know why they are so proud of the empty room each year. But then all those dealers who do take tables, are best as they are PNG members-LOL!  No wonder the room is empty!

PNG, there is still time between now and your measly day show to show the collecting world you are in their corner. You KNOW who the bad guys are in your club-TAKE ACTION! We dare you.

Want  a real wake up call? Just look at what is going on in sports cards. We could all be next!

There is still time to consign to September. We are seeking collections through single wonderful coins for the sale still. We prefer to have all the coins in house by the end of the month. If it warrants, we will have our chief numismatist Greg Cohen hop on a plane and go over your coins to craft the perfect deal for you.

Starting next week, highlights from our September will be posted. Please keep in mind, these are unedited. Also, we are still accepting consignments so this is not everything.
