The ANA PRE Show 2015

THIS MARKET REPORT IS BEING WRITTEN FROM EXPERIENCES LEGEND NUMISMATICS HAS ON THE BOURSE FLOOR. LEGDND DEALS IN THE TOP 5% OF QUALITY AND RARITIY. OTHER DEALERS WILL HAVE DIFFERENT RESULTS

We Will Never Learn

Every year the PNG show is the same-a pathetic waste. Why do we go? Occasionally we can find a single coin or meet up with a customer to make it worth while. Neither of those have happened since 2008. This years PNG show is the same as any other.  We are such creatures of habit!

We’ll call this show a dreck filled bore.

Before we get hounded, DRECK is NOT a 50C 1904 in AU58 or a cheaper coin (you can have a $100G piece of dreck). Dreck is the retread 82CC $1 MS65/66 you see at every other table that is low end and butt UGLY. Maybe it’s better if we said the majority of the tables look like they have been picked over and over, and over…. There is NO question quality FRESH coins were NON EXISTANT. If you just bought a really PQ coin and paid a hefty premium, after one walk around this show, you’ll feel so much better about what you bought. Even the biggest two wholesale buyers in the biz BOTH told us their buying was as weak as ever here.

This pre show is really a WHOLESALERS show anyway. Maybe a dozen people from the public attended today. Dealer attendance was weak to moderate.

Don’t take our negative report that the ANA Show will be the same. You’ll have HUNDREDS more dealers putting out their best coins. Far better attitudes will prevail. Our Brinks does not arrive until Monday (in it we have nearly $10 million dollars’ worth of WONDER GEMS).  We knew there would be no benefit to put out our very best coins to a small crowd (especially dealers primarily seeking crack outs).

We had no trouble selling (since we had nicer coins). Dealers are eager to buy and will pay premiums for real quality. Of course buying was a waste of our time. We made at least 10 trips around the bourse floor to see if anything new had come in. “first shots” yielded nothing for us to be excited about. At the end of the day we had spent a whopping $70,000.00 on widgets (its easy to get frustrated and buy to buy when you can’t find what you want).

Even though this is a bit if a sour report-collectors should take it as a positive. There are NO dealers dumping and there are NOT swollen inventories.

Hopefully our ANA Report will be more spirited.
