UNBELIEVABLE IN EVERY WAY!
Legend would like to thank everyone who wandered to the ends of the earth to visit us at our table. We thought CSNS disliked us, but we later found out it was because we flip-flopped on the kind of table we wanted. Hopefully next year we will be in a better location. Frankly, it did not matter this time. All areas of the room had action. A few aisles were too crowded to walk down. We watched a dealer who assembled about 8 tables and stuffed them full of non-CAC, PCGS, and NGC coins. From the minute the doors opened until we left early, his table was jammed. We saw a lot of physical cash change hands. Even though we sold big-ticket items and had our best show ever, we couldn’t bear to see how many smaller ones he sold (we’d bet hundreds of coins). Regardless, it was great to see that heavy rare coin action. The bullion market had a ton of activity, but the coin collectors clearly were out in force (including many who flew in).
This was probably one of the better CSNS shows regarding public attendance. We saw many friends and several serious buyers who were actually buying, not just socializing. It was like the FUN 2026 Show all over again. CSNS really did a good job this show. There are now no major shows until ANA at the end of August. Due to that, we are definitely attending the PCGS Show in May in LA, and we are splitting a table at summer FUN.
LEGEND NUMISMATICS HAD ITS GREATEST SHOW EVER AT CSNS—and we mean EVER. We arrived at the show in a near panic. We only had 2 boxes of coins. We can’t even say they were all desirable. Our first buyer (a team of 2) shocked us by spending a combined $100,000.00. This was on Tuesday. They exceeded our expectations right there. From that point on we never looked back. We just kept selling. It did not matter if it was a $3,000.00 coin or the many $25,000–$65,000 coins we sold. The first day we were at $250,000.00 in sales and figured we’d really be finished. Nope. When we set up at our table, we just kept selling. We admit PNG Day sales were weak. They always are. It is no secret we can’t stand that organization and wish we didn’t have to tolerate that elitist BS.
Part of what made our show were the rare buying opportunities we had. Our actual buying at the show totalled $750,000.00! That is a feat we have not done in at least 10 years. Quite impressive numbers considering we were in an absolute panic about what we would be able to buy at the show. We really thought we would spend $50,000.00 at most. Several big Want List holes got filled too. Look at some of these amazing coins we bought (virtually all are now sold)
50C 1795 PCGS MS64 CAC A MONSTER
$1 1880-S PCGS MS67 DMPL CAC WOW!
$1 1881 PCGS PR67 DCAMEO CAC POP 1 CAC
$2.5 1808 PCGS AU 50 CAC INCREDIBLY RARE
$10 1906 PCGS MS67+ CAC EX SIMPSON, THE FINEST
$10 1907 INDIAN PCGS MS67 CAC EX SIMPSON
By far the biggest coin we bought is the Half Disme.10C 1792 PCGS MS66 CAC. This is the finest graded by CAC. For this coin we paid well over $1 million. dollars. And you should see all the prearranged purchases in hand! WOW! There is a god.
Because it seems to us most tables have white widget Morgans, thus derailing our appetite for them. And what did we buy? A small DMPL deal and a few smaller white Morgans. We bought one of the nicest $1 1893CC MS 63 Morgans we have seen and immediately sold it to a want list customer. For sure Morgans are not dead. If you have the right examples with the right look, they sell instantly. Price is really NOT the issue. We know one Morgan Dollar dealer who was so swamped he never had time to leave his table except to pick up lunch.
It is our strong opinion that these coins and similar ones are appearing because collectors feel comfortable about what buyers are willing to pay. Even though we had an awesome buying show, there really was not much to buy. We saw very little type. Each day we went table to table. In fact, the first time around, we missed the 1881 PR Morgan because it was buried in a row with average DMPLs.
FYI: We were not the only ones with the best show ever. Our Stealth Super Secret seller broke $1 million in sales before the show even opened. He generated so much volume that he stopped trying to track his sales. Good for him. He goes from table to table at the show. Prior to the show, he probably saw 20 of the biggest buyers in the biz. He is a very hard worker. We don’t do what he does, and we expect it will take a week for our bodies to unwind from the show.
There is one other seller like him, but he has too many boxes of coins to move from table to table. As of Thursday, he had told us he brought 16 boxes and was down to 6! Many of his coins are not cheap. We definitely use both of them as guides as to where the wholesale market stands.
We thought it was cute that two people came to the table asking us to point him out because they always read about him here. Sorry, his name can’t be published. But we promise, he does exist. He is giving us a very nice check for this show.
A BIG CONGRATS TO HALF DOME ON AN AMAZING FEAT!
Legend Numismatics is proud to announce that our Half Dome collector has hit another milestone in his numismatic career. He completed his first-year Type Collection when we just bought the 1792 Half Disme at CSNS. He paid $1,450,000.00. His set is not just any set. We will not be putting it in any registry. He built the set with pure passion for the history and beauty of the first-year coins. His set includes:
H.01 1793 PCGS MS65BN CAC
1C 1793 CHAIN PCGS MS65 BN CAC
H.10 1792 HALF DISME PCGS MS66 CAC
10C 1796 PCGS MS66+ CAC
25C 1796 PCGS MS64 CAC (his favorite)
50C 1794 PCGS AU55 CAC
$1 1794 PCGS XF 40 CAC JAMES STACK
$2.5 1796 W/STARS PCGS MS62 CAC (our favorite coin ever)
$5 1795 PCGS MS65 CAC
$10 1795 PCGS MS65 CAC
Half Dome is also famous for having the greatest 20th-century gold set ever. Many people ask us if these “whales” really care about the coins or if they just live for the registry challenge. Last week we were at the bank box with him. He laid out his Type collection and proudly admired it for a very long time. He did not take out his gold. He knows you really can’t get a set much cooler than the very first year coins were minted.
AN IMPORTANT SHOUT OUT TO PCGS AND CHARLES MORGAN
We complain a lot about PCGS. Today, we want to show kudos to them and Charles Morgan. Charles was on the floor talking to dealers. He is leading an effort to enhance the PCGS online experience. Most importantly, he is working to update their price guide. YIPPIE! He is currently investigating the current market pricing. We stepped up and sent him the prices we paid. PCGS is definitely proactive, whereas the other price guides do little to nothing. There are still HUGE gaps between reality and what the price guides show, but at least PCGS is trying. It may take a while, but Charles’s efforts will certainly help. Way to go Charles and PCGS!
TOTAL DESPERATION—THE $2.5 1928
We surrender. We looked at every inch of the CSNS Show for one graded PCGS MS65 CAC. We’ve been on the dealer networks for weeks now. We even asked buyers from other firms to help us find one. This example definitely shows how big that black hole is.
CAC has beaned at least 44 coins in MS65. Where the heck are they all? We would be happy with an MS65+ or MS66 (must be PCGS CAC) as well. You just can NOT buy cheaper GEM coins today with CAC beans!
Remember we only need one coin. We will pay $3,750.00 for a PCGS CAC piece. Please email or call us!
NEWPS
As you can see, we posted some DMPL’s from the small fresh group we had access to. It was disappointing the deal had so many near misses for being CAC’d. See the 1884CC we listed that is not beaned.
One highlight: the $1 1894 PCGS MS65 CAC. That is a very rare, completely white, and untouched bird. We knew we were buying it the second we saw it. Sure, we paid strongly because today that is the only way you will get the coin.
The grand highlight of this group of NEWoS is the $20 1908S PCGS MS65 CAC. It was purchased from B Max Mehl and has been off the market ever since. It was graded only a few weeks ago. That is cool.
We really can’t complain about buying this show. Most of the coins went to want lists. As we said, we have not experienced this activity in many years.
Next week, we will have another round of fabulous coins.
Please everyone, keep the coins coming. We thank people like the very nice doctor who came to see us and left us with 4 beautiful PCGS CAC Seated Halves to sell. More, more, more, please! Back in the office we are starting to see smaller deals in the price ranges we badly need: $2,000.00-$10,000.00. However, we are not earning nearly enough to pay our bills for the month. At least this amazing CSNS show gives us some breathing room.
