SUPRISINGLY ACTION HAS HELD UP
2021 was the first year we can remember with epic sales occurring during what had typically been a dead zone after FUN. Last year the sales not only blasted through but were building. We are happy to report this year while not building in strength, sales are very firm, no question sales did not stop. As proven in the FUN Auction, better gold coins are still leading the way. We do very much consider post FUN sales as strong.
Even though coins are slowly starting to appear again, overall, there is still a huge lack of coins on the market. There are many sets you’d think would be completable that in today’s world are not. The disruptors (the crypto gang and others) are still collecting has hard as ever (guess we’ll now have to see if they step back with crypto falling as of this writing). The big girl coins are trading fast and furious. These coins are all one and done (off the market). Proof gold-forget about it-that is something you might want to sell today at the crazy numbers. We still suggest you sell your generics or duplicates. Taking a profit never hurts.
Do not let all this heavy action talk scare you. Even in better gold coins we still see plenty of opportunity. You have to remember the rare coin market was in a valley for many years. Most likely we are in the start of a bull market for hard assets. Unfortunately for coins, we are NOT in a complete bull market. As we have repeated many times, there are several areas (Nickels, Mercs, some Bust coins, etc) that are lagging. We do think activity overall is inching towards a full bull market.
The next barrier for market activity will be April around tax time. Last year the train was picking up speed around then. Our sales-maintained record levels for January 2022 (and we did not attend FUN and we got severely nuked in the FUN auction). We’re optimistically holding our breath this upwards trend and strong sales continue. We see no reason for it to stop as there is still way too much money floating around in the world.

The average quality of the coins is nothing less than amazing. There are also two incredible matched and rare original Proof sets-as many of you know we consider those to be the last frontier in numismatics. Last there are hundreds of just great coins. Do NOT be lulled into anything by the pre bidding. Thursday night at 7 PM Est is when the action really hits.
Since the sale is only 280 lots, do not expect things to fall through the cracks. If you were nuked in the FUN Sale, this sale could be just as bad (we hate to warn you). We strongly suggest you use our estimates as MINIUMS a coin could sell for. No, we’re not hyping our own sale-don’t need too. We’re trying to help collectors buy the coins they need and understand where pricing will be. In today’s market, especially buying via auctions, the price realized very well could be the current market prices. In the majority of instances most coins have not appeared in a very long time or have ridiculously low pops (less then 10 is really rare folks). Coins that used to be common years ago, have more rarity today because of stronger demand.
