Sad, this coin has been bouncing around a little bit. It deserves a great home. This coin was purchased out of our 07/2017 by the current owner for $73,437.50. This coin has been away for a minimum of 20+ years prior to that. It is from the estate of a major Trade Dollar collector. This coin’s quality is great.
Outstanding super satiny smooth surfaces are visible all over. Even using a strong glass you will find hardly any scrapes or ticks. A moderate luster greatly enhances the totally original colors. A thick band of navy opens into deep champagne centers. There are no spots or discolorations. Miss Liberty and the details are sharply struck and are way above average. We assure you, this is not your typical 1878-CC Trade Dollar. The overall eye appeal is very pleasing!
PCGS 8, NGC 5, CAC 4. The last PCGS MS64 CAC piece to sell in auction (prior to ours) brought $69,000 in August 2012. We paid $54,050 for a NGC MS63+ CAC in June 2016. The current Collectors Universe Value is $80,000. PCGS has graded only 2 coins higher (the MS65 last sold for $200,000.00 in 2018). The extreme rarity of this date and grade are undeniable. We know this will be a great fit in any choice CC or MS Trade Dollar set.
If you collect CC Trade Dollars, you can never buy the MS66 (forever in the BC collection). And good luck finding the MS65.
