$1 1879CC PCGS MS65+ EX SUNNYWOOD/SIMPSON

$42,500.00

This is one of the very best toned 1879CC GEM Morgans that exists! It is from the ultimate complete collection of toners-Sunnywood/Simpson. A truly spectacular example, and an “old friend;” we sold this coin in our Regency IX Auction of the Sunnywood/Simpson Toned Dollar Collection, October 2014, lot 130. An important date that is rarely found with beautiful toning, this coin features a lovely rainbow of subtle yet distinctive pastel hues intensifying near the left obverse rim. Exceptional quality and eye appeal, and seemingly deserving of a higher grade. Easily among the very finest survivors of this key issue. Most 1879-CC dollars are either circulated or lower graded UNC, and most of the times, the uncs are dipped white. Not only are they very rare in Gem MS65 grade, but with color like this, especially so! Think about how special this coin is: this is the coin that the Sunnywood Collector chose to represent the date in his historic toned dollar set. The eye appeal is breathtaking! PCGS 98, NGC 51, CAC 32. PCGS has graded 11 in MS65+.  We assure you, NONE of the others look like this!  Only three coins have graded MS66 at PCGS; none of them have ever sold in auction, and PCGS estimates a value of $160,000 in their Price Guide, should one ever come up for sale. Our Coronet piece (the former #1 set) brought $58,750.00 back in June 2015. The current Collectors Universe Value is $47,500.00 for an MS65+. Regardless, BOTH Sunnywood and Simpson had unlimited resources and energy (and us to help) to search all over for the VERY BEST of the BEST toned Morgans. In finding this beauty-they did all the hard work for you!
