From time to time we get smitten by coins out of our typical wheelhouse. For sure, this was one. We rank this coin as a GEM XF!
No question this coin is 100% GEM original. There are a few more lines on the holder than the coin. In fact the surfaces appear smooth and clean. We think this coin has a strong case for an XF45. The wear is light and is even. There are NO discolorations. The color is a deep pewter/gray. This is NOT a dull coin. Miss Liberty and the details are above average in strike and are totally visible. The eye appeal is fabulous!
PCGS 12, NGC 2, CAC 3. The last PCGS CAC piece to sell via auction brought $5,520.00 12/23. This is NOT that coin. In fact, this is a fresh coin to the market. We are on a PRE 1800 coin kick. How could we not buy an GEM XF 227 year old coin? Plus, we do not recall seeing many examples of this date in ANY grade! Apparently, PCGS has graded a total of LESS than 100 coins in ALL grades.
