What a beautiful near MS coin this is. Clearly, it is NOT a Fairmont coin. We unhesitatingly consider this coin a SUPERB GEM AU!
The surfaces are extremely clean and smooth to the naked eye. When using a strong glass you will only find the tiniest of scattered ticks. A bold luster can be detected. The reverse has semi-prooflike mirrors. Both sides do have a super light sprinkle of pale orange gold original toning. This is NOT a dirty coin. It has an original deep gold color. Miss Liberty and the details are frosty and are sharply struck. The eye appeal is super nice!
PCGS 6, NGC 14, CAC 4. CAC has only beaned 4 pieces higher (the highest is an MS62). This was the last CAC AU 58 sold via auction. It brought $8,225,99 in 04/2022. That was then, this is today with afar stronger gold coin market. The fact that there are so few CAC pieces total for the date says a lot about how it does not come very nice. If you like better date gold, this is a great piece to add to your set!
