The bright and glossy surfaces exhibit slight reflectivity in the fields, supplying a medallic appearance with needle-like design definition, unobstructed by abrasions or other post-strike imperfections. Medium brown patina retains considerable original orange mint color with a tiny spot below the chin that will aid future identification.
The last auction appearance a decade ago identified this piece as the Crosby plate coin. However, it is clearly not that coin as this piece is an early die state and the Crosby plate coin is a late die state. The differences are obvious.
