1C 1857 FE PCGS MS66

$13,500.00

WOW! What a great looking 1857 Flying Eagle cent! Despite a mintage of nearly 17.5 million and status as the first year of issue for general circulation, you would think that there would be more that were saved at the time of issue in SUPERB grade; this is not the case. Above MS64, this date becomes quite scarce and is VERY RARE in MS66.

The present high end and high grade survivor is boldly lustrous with a flowing, radiating satin bloom that enlivens the surfaces. The devices are fully rendered by an exacting blow from the dies, which pressed every minute detail strongly into the copper-nickel planchet. An original warm orange-tan color has lighter golden highlights that attest to the absolute originality of this borderline-SUPERB GEM example. The surfaces are clean and there is a tiny toning dot or two that can be seen with a strong glass. The eye appeal is absolutely spectacular!

PCGS 26, NGC 12, CAC 9. Prior to this coin selling, the most recent PCGS/CAC MS66 to sell brought $15,600 in the 2018 ANA auction, but keep in mind we sold a PCGS MS65+ CAC for $18,213. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $14,500. Just a single MS66+ is graded finer at PCGS, a coin that has never sold in auction, and who knows when, if ever, it becomes available to collectors. This may be one of your few chances to add a very high end 1857 Flying Eagle cent to your type set. Opportunity knocks loud here!
