$2.5 1802/1 PCGS AU58+

$41,000.00

This is one of the nicest examples of this date we have ever seen and yes, that does include several MS examples. We grade this coin an AU58.9+!  Really!

Excellent surfaces have just a few microscopic tiny scattered ticks. Using a strong glass you will not find anything to disappoint you. Hard to believe a 217 year old coin can have an original luster so powerful as this one does. It beams boldly from all over. You can see traces of semi-prooflike mirrors on the reverse. There are some hints of light coppery toning on the reverse. The strike is more typical of an early date coin. Remember these hand made. The stars are full while Miss Liberty is slightly weak in strike. The reverse also has a soft strike on the upper portion of the Eagle. The eye appeal is phenomenal!

PCGS 11, NGC 20, CAC 11. This is the lone AU58+ graded at PCGS. This was the AU58 that sold for $36,000.00 09/2019. Did we pay too much? heck no! Again, we have seen several of these-including higher grade coins that do not come close to this coins killer quality  and eye appeal. The prices for just about ALL early $2.5 are too low and are wrong. To find really nice original pieces you can’t buy these cheap. Plus, for the date -in AU58 and higher, the last auction sale for any coin was the MS64+ (The FINEST) from Pogue in 01/2016. This is a rarer date then the pops indicate!
