We consider this amazing GEM to be one of our BEST purchases from the Baltimore show. Its quality and rarity cannot be over stated. In fact of all known Proof 1875 $2.5-this coin is the FINEST graded!
Absolutely radiant booming mirrors highlight both sides. There is some die polishing (Mint made) that is visible only with a glass. There are NO problems visible anywhere. The clarity is also superior and the texture is glassy. Miss Liberty and the details are needle sharp in strike and have thick creamy gold frosting. The eye appeal is like the quality-PHENOMENAL!
ONLY 20 pieces were ever minted. This coin is rarer than a 1894S 10C or even a 1804 $1. PCGS 0, NGC 2 (possibly this coin twice), CAC 1. In 2007 this coin sold for $92,000.00 in a Heritage sale. Even in PR 65 we guesstimate this coin would be worth at least $50,000.00 (which is what a deep cameo sold for in 2008).
The extreme rarity and great quality of this coin should NOT be overlooked. Even if you do not collect $2.5 Gold, this coin is a “no brainer” to put away for many reasons.
