3CS 1851-O PCGS MS66
We have always loved this date and grade. Sadly a few too many have been graded 66 that should not be. If those did not exist, this coin would be worth over $10,000.00 easy! This coin definitely has its own legs! We do rank it an MS66+, too bad PCGS does not.
If you really look hard and inspect the surfaces with a strong glass, you will find a widely scattered old microscopic tick or two and a lint mark on the reverse. The surfaces are also satiny smooth and have a strong luster. Both sides are evenly covered on the peripheries by thicker deep reddish brown totally original colors. The centers are purple pewter/silver. All of the details are sharply struck do stand out clearly. The eye appeal is really nice!
PCGS 32 NGC 13, CAC 20 (obvious resubmissions). The last one to sell in a major auction brought $4,200.00 04/2019, prior to that it was $6,168.00 1/2018. This is yet another date that is badly suffering from some coins that did not deserve to be graded. Even though the PCGS pop says 32 and CAC says 20, we’d guesstimate in real life you can cut those numbers in half. We love the act it is an obsolete denomination, it is a full HIGH END GEM, and its from a long shutter Mint-New Orleans. Anything below $10,000.00 in our opinion is too cheap. Time will fix it.
