We grade this coin a MS66+. We won’t crack it out because PCGS is insanely tight. They probably didn’t like all the clash marks (which are all mint made). WE MAKE NO PROMISES IT WILL GO UP IN GRADE.
As we said, we see no reason why this coin is only an MS66. The surfaces (save for the clash marks) are PERFECTLY clean. They are also fully prooflike. There some light striations (which are also mint made) visible. A booming luster enhances the deep and totally original champagne/blue/pale golden brown colors. Every detail is pinpoint sharp in strike and boldly stands out. The eye appeal is awesome!
ONLY 8000 were ever minted. PCGS 9, NGC 15, CAC 10. PCGS has graded only 8 coins higher. The current PCGS CAC value is $5,750.00. Even a PCGS NON CAC piece brought $4,000.00 08/2020. We think for a sturdy Civil War date, to be able to buy one so far BELOW $5,000.00-is a gift! Do NOT be fooled by the pops, these are NOT readily available. Opportunity knocks loud here!
