$5 1838 PCGS MS65 GARRETT/POGUE

$119,500.00

What a moose of a coin! We rarely ever see real choice examples let alone a full GEM like this! Sensational surfaces are smooth and super satiny. There is even a slight trace of semi-prooflike mirrors. Even if you look really hard with a really strong glass, there are NO impairments of any significance anywhere. There is a gorgeous “thick” luster that beams from all over. The color is a totally original two tone thick deep gold and a brighter lighter gold. There are zero spots or discolorations. Miss Liberty and the details are thickly frosted and have crisp standout strikes. The eye appeal is great-we love the look so much we have trouble pitting the coin away! PCGS 3, NGC 0, CAC 2. PCGS has graded an MS65+ and the lone MS66 higher (we have the MS66 for sale). NOTE: The PCGS MS65+ sold for $164,500.00 while we paid $235,000.00 for the MS66 in Pogue). This particular coin offered he last sold in 1999 in the Harry Bass Collection. It has been in the Pogue collection for many years. If you seek a “put away”,  Type, or special addition to your collection better gold piece that won’t be replicated, this is it! This Classic Head Type of $5 is much rarer then people think and has made very few appearances though out the years.
