$5 1852-D PCGS AU58

$6,950.00

A SUPER attractive 1852-D $5! We unhesitatingly consider it a SUPERB GEM AU. We’d bet before third party grading this coin was probably graded an MS61. Ah the good old days!

Showing just the lightest hint of friction on the high points and in the fields, the surfaces are generally devoid of anything more than the slightest tiny traces of contact in the obverse fields. The strike is above average with decent definition to Liberty’s hair curls and eagle’s feathers, but the typical peripheral weakness is seen at the obverse rims. Nice, original honey-wheat gold color with olive accents are spread all over. There are NO spots or discolorations. The eye  appeal is great!

PCGS 14, NGC 37, CAC 5. Prior to this one selling, the most recent example with CAC approval realized $6,600 in June 2018. Prior to that, a non-CAC coin sold for $7,800 in a November 2017 auction. The current Collector’s Universe value is listed at $7,500. A very important opportunity for the collector of southern branch mint gold looking for a seriously PQ example of this date.
