50C 1855S W/A PCGS AU58

Item# 4440

While the PCGS pop report shows one MS66, we can tell you about the sad fate of that coin. We tried real hard to buy it. Finally when we decided to give in and pay an astronomical price-the owner (a major “crackout company”) had told us they sent it to NCS. Next time they showed us the coin, it had been stripped of its beautiful toning, was lifeless, and was now in an NGC MS67 holder. We have NEVER forgiven ALL parities involved for what they did to that treasure. Now, this piece we own IS THE FINEST GRADED BY PCGS.

We grade this coin full SUPERB GEM AU! The are NO visible imperfections. A glowing luster shows off exceptionally clean and smooth surfaces. Only under a strong glass can you detect any lines or wear. The color is a light champagne/steel. Miss Liberty and the details are fully struck. The appeal is phenomenal!

PCGS 1, NGC 6, CAC 1. Even in AU55 this coin is exceedingly rare-with PCGS and NGC each having graded 2 coins. The last time (and only auction record we could find) this coin appeared in auction, it sold for $20,700.00 back in 1/09 Stacks. If you are building a choice Seated Half Dollar set, then you really MUST SEE this magnificent coin! It DOES look much better than AU.
