We consider this date to be a ‘silent stopper” for the series in PR67. It is much harder to find than the pops indicate.
No question this coin is a full top notch PR67. The surfaces are sleek, have ZERO flaws anywhere, offer decent mirrors (note: this is not a dipped coin), and have a touch of color. There are more problems on the holder than the coin! All of the details are fully struck and have light frost. The eye appeal is excellent!
PCGS 15, NGC 11. Only NGC has graded one coin higher. Other dates that are considered similar (POPS: 1881: 23, 1883: 20) obviously have many more graded PR67. We think these seem too cheap. How often to you have ANY object, not messed with from 1879 in an amazingly preserved condition for so little? We doubt as time goes one many more will be make this lofty designation.
