What an AMAZING Draped Bust half dime! Legend Rare coins is proud to offer this stunning, SUPER HIGH END GEM. This coin is a beautifully toned GEM example that is fresh to the market and is extremely high end for the grade.

A condition census LM-3, which is rated as Rarity-4, the LIBEKTY variety was created when the engraver utilized a broken R punch with the loop in the R open,creating a letter similar to a K.

Nearly fully struck, with razor sharp definition in most places, there is just a touch of weakness on the eagle’s right wing and the right most clouds above the wing. A bold, satiny mint luster rolls unimpeded on both sides, which is especially vivid towards the peripheries. A touch of gold and emerald at the rims blends to an even cobalt and teal patina that is deep, but becomes quite vivacious when rotated in a light. Light clash marks are seen with the aid of a powerful glass as are a few tiny stray ticks noted for the sake of full disclosure, but are irrelevant in terms of the technical and aesthetic quality, which this one possesses in spades! Truly a gorgeous example! . We cannot trace a modern provenance for this coin, thus we believe that the last time this GEM sold in auction was when it was “raw.” Housed in a “Generation 3.1” old green tag holder, which was in use from March 1993 to September 1998. The Norweb Collection, Part 1, October 1987 had two GEM examples, and this is NOT one of them. Nor does it match any of the other high grade examples sold in that era, including the NGC MS66 in the 1990 Boys Town Sale. For the PCGS# 4264 as noted on the insert:

PCGS 1, NGC 1, CAC 2; PCGS has 2 in MS65+ and just one in MS66 .  The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $55,000 and the last time the MS65 sold was in the 2008 FUN auction for $80,500 (it was NOT this coin). The Norweb:309 coin, graded MS65+ CAC, sold in the 2015 ANA for $47,000 (this coin is much more evenly toned and eye appealing) and we think it should sell for more.
