J-239 1859 PCGS PR65

$3,950.00

We LOVE everything about this GEM. We unhesitatingly state: this is one of the VERY BEST J-239’s we have EVER seen! It is also an R-4 (76-200 minted).

Typically these come dull and lower graded. For whatever reason, many had been cleaned. This coin is so far superior to all that we just can’t put it down!

Both sides are have surprising deep, clear, clean, and remarkably flashy mirrors. Some patches of moderate golden brown color are scattered about and are VERY attractive. The portrait especially stands out with frosting and a pinpoint sharp strike (actually all the features do). The overall quality and eye appeal are tremendous!

PCGS 5, NGC 5, CAC 2. Only the NGC PR66 in the BRS Legacy Collection is finer. The last one to sell in major public auction brought $4,600.00 in an Akers sale in 1990! An NGC coin brought $3,220.00 01/09 Heritage. The 2010 Judd book values a PR65 at $4,000.00. Also note: a REGULAR PR65 Half from 1859 would cost you at least $6,000.00-and there are 800 minted!

As we said before, this is one of the prettiest examples of Longacres French Head design we have EVER seen!
