$5 1855-C PCGS MS-63
$57,500.00
We have never owned ANY 1855C’s before. This coin stood out and was so beautiful and SUPER HIGH END we had to own it. After some quick research, we believe now that the telemarketers have left the building, C+D Mint Gold are ripe for firm price advances. There are just so few truly choice unmessed with pieces available.
We have seen commoner later dated $5 Libs in MS64 that look worse than this coin. We do not know why it is just an MS63. There is absolutely nothing for PCGS to worry about (it is highly unusual to find an unmessed with piece). The surfaces are really clean overall and have strong traces of prooflike mirrors. A natural band of thicker gold color frames the peripheries. The luster is surprisingly strong and enhances the beautiful bright yellow gold color. There are NO spots or discolorations. Miss Liberty and the details are incredibly struck and display sensational thick frost. Yes, this coin DOES appear fully cameoed!
39000 were minted. Of course very few survived in MS-let alone CHOICE MS. PCGS has possibly graded only 4 coins in MS, while NGC has graded 13. THIS IS THE FINEST GRADED BY PCGS after 20+ years of operations and millions of coins graded. NGC does have a 64 and a 65 (which sold for $67,000.00 way back in 99). Back in a 1995 Stacks sale an NGC coin sold for $38,500.00. There have been no PCGS coins auctioned since 2001-when one sold in Goldberg for $17,500.00. it is our VERY strong opinion that a high end rarity like this should be worth $75-$100,000.00. These certainly are not available at every show and using the tools we have we know they certainly have not been offered even once a year! This is definitely a Legend quality and Legend calibre coin!
