THIS WILL BE A TELL TALE WEEK FOR THE COIN MARKET
As many of you know, the sole legal $20 1933 Saint (PCGS CAC) 65 is coming up for sale June 8th 10 am. Sothebys has done an all out world wide marketing campaign on it and the two rarest stamps. The questions are: will it attract new money and how strong is the coin market (what will it bring)?
Our hope is the coin sells for $15 million to a non coin buyer. In our opinion, it would prove coins do have appeal beyond just the hard core wonks.
The coin market (especially all gold rarities) is super strong right now. A strong price will for sure raise the market entirely. A moderate price will keep things humming. If the coin should not break $10 million, it actually should not effect cheaper coins, but it would leave us scratching our heads and might slow the growth on million dollar coins. In an era when baseball cards are selling for up to $5 million (pops 2-3) you’d have to figure a coin with one of the greatest histories like the 1933 should bring at least $10 million. The amounts of big money floating around in the world is obscene. Its time the rare coin market got its 15 min worth of prime time fame and serious new big money. Tuesday 10 AM we will all know the answer!
BUSY BUSY
Yes, we are selling lots of coins. More so then what you see on our web site. What is selling: Soup to nuts-but gold coins seem the hottest. Coins that rank among the finest also have huge appeal.
We still can’t believe how much we sold at the PCGS invitational last week. And it was NOT all to dealers. Our biggest sale was to a collector!
Gold coins below $25,000.00 pretty much are flaming red hot. Type is still sporadic in demand, however we can’t stock anything below $2,500.00 for more then a day or so. Sadly, there are a few series like 3CN’s and Bust 25C that are still weak. If you are a contrarian now is a great time to buy in those two areas!
We can’t say it enough, we recommend building a gold Type set. That YOU can decide what to include. In fact, a regular Type (MS or PR) set is not a bad idea too.
