STATUS QUO

We had a busy week; however, we did not experience any explosive sales days like we did last week. However, we were pleasantly surprised by three exceptional coin deals. One deal we can mention that will be available when we post NEWPS next week is the TYPETONE Collection of Proof Seated Half Dimes. All are PCGS CAC and are lovely. We also have a big gold deal on its way. The last deal, currently located in our office, is worth six figures, but we cannot disclose it yet as we are discussing how to present it. Oh yeah, we also saw a deal that was incredible and off the market for over 25 years-but the owner was more into show and tell, it seemed. Ouch!

Although the PCGS Invitational is scheduled for the week of the 20th this month, there will be no major shows until Baltimore. That’s good but bad. There will be little to entice collectors. That translates into sporadic trading among dealers too (unless, of course, they get some deals like we have). And when a deal does appear, right now it would be gobbled up in record speed. That leads to a more sluggish market. We can not emphasize enough that this situation has created a buyer’s market for most existing items available for sale. Take advantage of it. We are not exaggerating when we say the coin market is expanding (through all these apps) at a record pace. It is our strong opinion that we will wake up one day and, with a severe shortage of quality coins, see most (not all) coins pretty much double overnight or more!

To be clear, it is also a seller’s market today (unless you bought it recently). We consider any coins that have been off the market for longer than 6 years in our orbit to be fresh. Unless you overpaid for the coins, a fresh coin is almost always gobbled up immediately. For example, we had a huge Morgan Dollar deal. Most coins had been off the market for six to ten years. I brought the first batch to the March Baltimore Show, where it nearly sold out at top dollar! Selling the coins was super easy. We sold the remaining coins at a reduced price. The owner of the collection was thrilled with the results. Quite a few of his coins were not CAC, either!

Stay tuned: the major auction houses will soon be holding significant art sales. There is also a big classic car auction coming up. It will be fascinating to see how these sales do.

GOLD

The monster roller coaster of up and down is just crazy. The big investment bankers are still calling for it to go much higher.

Interestingly, we are totally out of MS 64+65 Saints. We are not finding any commoner MS 66s either. In fact, people want to buy all of them right now. Even if gold were to drop 10%, we highly doubt there would be any change in the price of an MS65 Saint. Now that demand has picked up, so have the premiums. However, this has not happened on MS66s. So we are more aggressively trying to buy them. Eventually, their premiums will also increase.

In our opinion, owning any gold coin is a good value right now. It does not have to be a rarity worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. We still recommend Gold Type sets. Or you can buy a 1900-1907 MS 65 set of $2.5 Libs. There is so much you can do and enjoy.

NEWPS

We have an interesting group of NEWPS. Included for the first time in a long time are a few WILD (and we mean WILD) toners. All of the NEWPS were handpicked for eye appeal and quality. Sure, we call almost every coin HIGH END, but THAT IS WHAT WE DEAL IN-and we know quality!

We feel strongly that every coin we have posted would be a highlight at other dealers. Just look at the coins we posted!
