1878 $1 Pattern J-1550 PCGS PR65CAM (CAC) HARRY BASS
$59,500.00
This is an R-6 30-76 Minted. This coin is struck in silver.
When we first laid eyes on this prototype PR Morgan, our jaws hit the floor and locked. Not only is it SUPER HIGH END, we did try it for a higher grade (not just a +). We make no promises it will upgrade.
Deep, flashy mirrors immediately garner your attention. We used a strong glass and looked everywhere, finding only a few light, wispy lines. When you twirl the coin, besides the flash, the mirrors have a watery-like roll. A wonderful and totally original mix of pale navy/golden brown/russet colors frames the peripheries. The strong contrast makes the portrait stand out. Of course, Miss Liberty and the details are needle-sharp in strike. The eye appeal is remarkable!
PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. There is no auction record for this coin, nor is there a Collectors Universe value. We only know what we had to pay to obtain this gorgeous rarity. We doubt fewer than a dozen even exist in all grades.
If you are a world-class Pattern collector or are building one of the very finest Proof Morgan sets, this precursor to the PR Morgan belongs in your set!
