1884 $3 Gold PCGS MS63 (CAC)

We know this date well. We have built two choice/GEM sets of $3. This is what we call the “silent stopper.” It was one of the last dates in both sets we found in MS (in one set it was the very last). Rarely does this date appear PCGS CAC. We unhesitatingly rank this coin VERY HIGH END!

We wish all MS63 coins could look this good! There are very few ticks and hairlines visible when you examine it closely with magnification. Due to the smaller mintage, there are bold traces of semi-prooflike mirrors. A bold luster is also visible. Both sides are a GEM original yellow/pale orange/gold color. There are no spots or discolorations. We will mention a thin grease line through the date on the reverse. There is good contrast. Miss Liberty and the details are well-struck. The eye appeal is wonderful!

Only 1000 were minted. PCGS 30, NGC 6, CAC 5. The last one to sell via auction brought $20,400.00 in 05/2023 and was the first MS 63 CAC to sell that way. The current Collectors Universe value is $25,000.00.

This wonderful coin represents a tremendous opportunity for anyone who collects $3 Indian or better gold.
