1900 25C Quarter Barber PCGS PR68CAM (CAC)

A turn-of-the-century date with an enduring type-coin cachet, and near the end of the era in which cameo contrast can generally be found on this series—1900 is next to the last such year. At PR68 Cameo the issue is genuinely rare: PCGS’s census has held at a handful for years (three straight 68s plus the Simpson 68+), and CAC’s count at the grade is in single digits. CAC approval confirms premium quality for the grade. Auction anchors: the Simpson PR68+ Cameo CAC, the sole finest at PCGS, brought $38,400 (Heritage, Jan 2022)

One of 912 proofs struck, with PCGS estimating some 750 survivors in all grades and only about 150 in Gem or better.
PCGS: 3 in PR68CAM, 1 higher CAC: 6 NGC: 5 at PF68 Cameo plus 1 at 68+;
