Now that all the distractions are over (tax time, spring break, eclipses, etc), coins are once again in focus. Of course bullion and everything gold is leading the way.
Much to our surprise, with increase in sales activity of generic saints, the premiums have not been increasing proportionally. If gold bullion keeps rising, which we do expect, the supplies are starting to dwindle so the premiums have to start rising. However, we do see opportunities in GEM MS 65 Saints. While we have none in stock currently, we have raised our bids and hope to buy a few. The idea of paying less than 50% over spot for a beautiful GEM Saint seems VERY appealing to us. Plus, the supply of GEM Saints is not as large as one might think.
We still do recommend building a gold Type set. It’s a way to diversify your holdings and you can place any coin you want in it. It’s one of our favorite things to build. We also suggest selling your bullion related holdings, like any foreign gold sovereign and trade them in to MS 64/65 Saints. Most foreign gold is trading slightly below melt.
One area in the coin market that has surprised us recently and is actually strong-ALL GEM AU and MS Bust coins pre 1807. Collectors cannot seem to get enough of those kinds of coins. We wish we had more! We posted a 10C 1800 PCGS MS63 CAC in our coin of the week-and and sold it right away! Collectors know there are not many original choice AU – GEM early bust coins available. We have always felt it was super cool to hold any coin in your hand that is nicely preserved from the late 1700’s early 1800’s.
