EARLY AUGUST REPORT

INTERESTING WEEK

Can not say we broke any sales records as it was extremely quiet this past week. It was the kind of week we expected to happen in early July. The hottest coin we sold was the $1 1803 Sm DT PCGS AU58+ CAC  (our coin of the week). Wish we had 4 of them!

We are preparing for the ANA show and auctions. Sunday we are lot viewing Stacks. We are reviewing our inventory and doing all the prep work now as we start technically “doing” the ANA Show this Friday!

SMALLER OFFERINGS, BIGGER NUMBERS

We think the few really neat coins in all the auctions will be realize super strong prices. The black hole we keep mentioning has gobbled up that many coins and left little to offer. It seems people made a lot of money in the stock market and are looking to place it in some hard assets. We can not say enough how coins are such a cheaper buy vs so many other areas (look at Ferraris alone). It takes $50 million plus to buy any real classic painting and $5 million to buy any cars now. In coins, save for the 1794 $1 SP 66 in our partners collection (value $10 million), you can still buy just about all classic rarities for UNDER $5 million. Earlier this year we helped 3 people sell their cheaper coins in response to their desires to buy better rarities in the $100,000.00-$1 million range (we know we are NOT alone in doing this). What most people to do not understand, is if you give us $3 million dollars, we can’t buy great keys or properly graded pieces we want. The market is that dry. These big auctions fool every one with thousands of lots of High Reliefs (in one ANA sale there are 7), 1895 Morgans, or expensive widgets on their special nights And yes, in our opinion a High Relief is no more then a widget (BUT everyone HAS a desire to have one). Smart money generally wants the best and rarest items that can be bought.

Our only wonder is why are certain series just idling. Guess the money has shifted to bigger and better-which in our opinion, opens up the rest of the world to great bargains in certain areas. The following series in OUR opinion off the BEST values:

Proof Three Cent Nickels. With common dates at $1,000.00 in PR 67-why not build a date set 1880-1889? Why is this series so overlooked? Its obsolete, its over 100 years old, and is some what collectoable-especially in proof.

ALL Shield nickels MS+PR. You can complete these sets. PR Shield Nickels have been slumping badly too.

MS Seated. Ever since Gardner sold in 2015, this series has not recovered.  You can do lots of sub sets and if you are bold and willing you can build complete sets.

PR Seated 10C -50C What? We are even seeing Civil War Dates selling cheap. A set from 1859-1891 can be completed in 64-66. Even PR67+ seem cheap to us. Do not include MS Seated Dollars, they are extremely hard to come by in choice or GEM.

$2.5 Indians. We see MS64’s across the board have fallen to levels too cheap. You can build a complete set. MS64 and MS64+ 1911D’s are available. Our buy all MS65’s and make the 11D and MS64+.

What we just listed are areas we scratch our heads on. We make NO promises they will go up, but we know what we do NOT see-and that is these series being drowned with attention.
