A BAD WINTER
Even though weather wise we did not suffer any major snow storms, our winter and spring were poor for Legend. Our FUN show was the worst ever. In February and March we did not think we’d ever sell a coin again-business was that flat. Only the last few weeks has business totally turned around. With out a doubt, collectors are looking for coins again. Our sales since the Baltimore show have been well in excess of $3 million dollars.
During that time, we sold soup to nuts-but we did a lot of bigger and better coins in the mid six figure range (an 10C 1822 PCGS PR66 CAC Cameo, a 10C 1796 PCGS MS66 CAC, A Stella PCGS PR67 Cameo CAC and a stunning 25C 1855 W/A PCGS MS67 CAC). As you can see these were all really rare, top end for the grades, and were all CAC beaned. We could have sold more if we could have found the right coins.
ITS RAINING GOLD
Here we go again! You know we were smiling when gold broke through $1,400.00 this week (it settled at $1,399.00). We have heard of larger generic orders being placed (like 250 MS63 $20 Saints).
Forever the gold bugs we are, we fully expect some trickled down effects for the rare coin market-even tho gold is not really directly correlated with super rare coins. This past week we did sell several $2-$8,000.00 PCGS CAC slightly better gold pieces. We’ve inquiries about some of our more expensive gold pieces. As one major dealer said to us “there is a pulse out there”. We fully agree.
The premiums on most gold coins are as low as they have ever been. NOW is the time to buy. Should gold spike to $1,500.00, it could be too late. The supply of deck gold is huge and will take a long time to go off the market. However, the supply of BETTER gold is as low as any one ever recalls. It will not take much for that market to pop. There are some big exotic PR Gold pieces coming up at the ANA Auctions. We’d be shocked if world record prices were not set.
Its interesting to note, obviously we have been trying to buy. Not only have we not bought anything (even the $900.00 coins are MIA), our bids have not been hit (and we are aggressive). Going in to the dead of summer, we do not expect things to change. This is the time to buy-even though ANA will have a huge display of better coins. At ANA prices generally rise as collectors come out and are focused on the rarities.
