While the Baltimore show was mostly quiet, back home activities were much stronger than expected. As the saying goes ” if it’s gold, it’s sold ” has never been more true. Collectors and investors were buying all the gold they could find – from junk to better coins. Generics were sought out. It will only be a matter of time before even more money creeps into the coin market making the “big black hole” even bigger.
Printed prices have not reflected the current market yet. We do predict this week’s Stacks auction will be very strong as we have already been out bid on a number of coins and our bids were strong. This trend will likely continue with the CSNS sale.
The banking turmoil only made people look for safer havens to store their money. Gold has shot up over $100.00 in 3 days. Many expect it to run as high as $2,500.00 shortly. We all know there are so few great coins to buy. We think the market will experience a huge rise with even more money searching for great coins. Be prepared to pay more, especially in auctions!
Forgot to mention, six biggest wholesale buyers missed the show for various reasons our “super secret” stealth seller still managed to do nearly half a million dollars in sales. He was busy for the entire pre-show and show. He said the “smaller dealers” are still starved for coins. Apparently, due to extreme tightness at the grading services the crackout dealers are sitting on the side lines. One said the grading services are “just not grading”. We are experiencing horrible time on “lock” crossovers.
