COINS ARE STILL SELLING FAST
Shhh, this is post ANA time. A time when the market is supposed to be dead. It sure has not been for us!
Legend Numismatics is selling coins pretty much as fast as we are posting them. Its mostly pricier coins selling off the web site as we have not been able to locate and buy many coins below $5,000.00 (sorry everyone). In fact several coins-like the $20 1850 PCGS MS62+ CAC had MULTIPLE buyers! Out side of the 1894-S 10C, we have done no other big transactions nor do we expect any to pop up until around Baltimore or even until FUN (its just how it goes). That does not mean we are not hunting. We’re worried we might be hitting a dry spell for NEWPS.
There is too much money out there in the world still looking for places to go. The big difference between now and March-people are some what more mobile and thus have more choices. Thus, the coin markets overall activities might have slowed just a bit. BUT we still see MORE NEW money then ever trickling in. This new money simply wants the very best (from what we see)-of which most is long off the market. It becomes a record breaking feeding frenzy in the auctions when a great coin does appear. Those great coins really only pop up at FUN and ANA. This year at ANA its amazing with over $75 million in US Coins sold in the auctions that there still is a huge hunger for coins now. Typically the market is digesting. Today, the market is still buying-at ALL price points.
We can’t stress enough that even if this semi cycle lasts until next late year, SELL INTO IT NOW! Sell your dupes, sell even your good coins. Do NOT wait-it will cost you! We had a long time customer come in our office last week with his “second box of 20” and said he was originally going to wait until the spring to sell. He realized NOW is the right time to sell it for his purposes (its his retirement money). People always ask, can you really make money in rare coins-HE IS! He bought right (all PCGS CAC) from us w/great eye appeal, and is allowing us to work our magic NOW.
So long as you have a LONG TERM outlook and buy right, rare coins are going to have a strong return. This cycle has already gone longer then expected and seems to have legs. Remember though, what goes up, must come down. You are NOT smarter or stronger then the market! At least right now, the market is VERY good.
Unfortunately, you can’t buy on the dip like in stocks. You just have to try and buy smart. Paying a world record price maybe what it takes to complete a set. But it may not be right to own a single example of coin. Work with us! No dealer alive is better at navigating a market like this. We mean it! Email or call us.
