A STRONG WEEK
Typically the week before a major auction like FUN (next week) would be quiet. This past week was anything but that. 2021 already has strong activity!
Monday was a bit quiet. Tuesday on was a mad house of sales. We made sales off our broken web site, sales to dealers, and sales just emailing individual collectors. Virtually every thing we sold was gold. Shocking to us, 99% of all coins were sold-were five figure gold coins. We did not get rich, but we were very content. With no shows currently around, we feel the strong early activity is a great sign for 2021. It is our belief collectors are stocking up on gold looking for it to be a “safe haven” with all the political turmoil. We are bullish and still feel gold will hit $2,500.00 an ounce in early 2021. Good luck trying to find any better gold on the market right now.
Now is really the time to buy non gold. Type has been so neglected. There are so many ways to collect. Date, sets, Type sets, year Sets, and really any way you want. For as big of a market as rare coins are, we strongly feel anything with a pop of LESS then 10 is extremely rare. You can buy coins valued at UNDER $10,000.00 (even under $5,000.00 in lesser grades) with pops of less then 10. Here is a great example of a good buy: 5C 1868 PCG S PR66+ CAC pop 3 none higher. One sold for $5,288.00 03/2020. Or an 1886 25C PCGS PR67 DC CAC. PCGS Pop 8. CAC pop 8. One sold for $9,900.00 09/2020. We try and buy using a 10/10 rule we thought up. If coin is UNER $10,000.00 and is UNDER 10 in pop, its too cheap and probably over looked. That does not apply for everyone we see, but that thinking has served us well.
THE SIMPSON SALE
Heritage is doing a great job on selling Bob Simpsons massive collection. We must remind the world, we estimate the coins being sold account for only 1/3 of his collection. He still has his killer collection of Gold Patterns (a drop dead wowzer of a collection) his #1 all time $10 Indian+ Saint sets. He has so much more you’d be shocked. We are extremely proud of the collection he allowed us to build. We are very sad to see some of it go. Can you imagine a near GEM 1794 Half in MS64+ CAC is a coin he “fired” (a term he uses) . His collection is insane and should be a real treat for the collecting public to see and possibly acquire.
Our advice to anyone bidding, if you do not think aggressive, you most likely will not buy much. Great coins are red hot usually with multiple collectors. If you think about it, you do NOT see Simpson coins coming back on the market. Even in a battered year like 2020 that was extremely impressive. Do know, many bids are already strong.

A SPECIAL NOTE: A Micky Mantle rookie card in Superb condition sold for $5,200,000.00 about a week ago. Rare coins have a long way to go still! The greatest coin rarities are cheap in comparison to what this card brought.

We listed less then we wanted to this week. But with gold so strong we decided to list some gold we just purchased from a long time collector. Of course every coin is Legend quality!
