MID NOVEMBER MARKET REPORT

LEGEND WILL HAVE OFFICE HOURS OF 9-NOON FRIDAY  NOVEMBER 25TH. We will still be checking our emails daily over the holiday!

HUMMING ALONG MARKET

Activity is strong all across the board in our realm of numismatics (only Barbers and Seated coins are still lagging). November usually is a strong month.

We have had several very sexy very  rare coins come in that we have been looking for -forever! No one hesitated or said no when we called. We paid strong without any hesitation-which is what you have to do buy coins like these. Still, it allowed for us to have one heck of a good week.

Even the art market was rejoicing for this weeks major auctions. Top of the line paintings that were supposed to have been weak-scored huge results-in some cases even double to triple what was expected. Of course the prices per painting were in excess of $10,000,000.00 (just shows how cheap our world still is)! Here is a good article from Christies: http://www.christies.com/features/Results-from-the-Impressionist-and-Modern-Evening-Sale-November-2016-7925-3.aspx?sc_lang=en&cid=EM_EMLcontent0414469recommended_1_0&cid=DM64060&bid=71916025

The firestorm of the election is now over. The panic clearly is subsiding. Collectors are back to what they do best-collecting coins. We clearly see confidence has come back. As usual, the only problem is supply. Finding great coins out side of auctions is nearly impossible!

A WORLD CLASS MILESTONE HAS BEEN HIT!

About 2 weeks ago we helped our good friend and customer we call “Hedgie “to complete his GEM MS Saint set-ALL PCGS ALL CAC. The very last coin added to that set was a 27S PCGS MS65+ CAC. That in it self was a landmark event. We think it would take us at least 5 years (and a set or two would have to be sold) to build another. Now he has done something that only a super collector can accomplish.

Hedgie was not just working on Saints. He was also building COMPLETE GEM $2.5, $5, $10 Indian Gold sets as well. They are now 100% completed. The quality in each set is unsurpassed. In his honor, we’re going run a contest. See if you can guess what the denomenation, date, and grade was of the coin that capped off this magnificent 20th Century Collection. It shocked us what the very last coin we had to hunt down was (and we found it in full GEM). Email lsperber1@hotmail.com with your guesses (sorry those of you who do know us and know are disqualified). Tuesday morning we will post what the coin was in this report. We will only accept one guess per email per person.  Cut off time will be 7 AM Tuesday. The prize will be a free consignment slot in our January Sessions Internet ONLY sale (coin must be $1,000.00-$10,000.00). We think the answer will surprise you.

The last coin: $5 1911S PCGS MS65 CAC

A note:  these sets really do exist. Our customer feels these projects are not finished. He has no desire to put them on the Registry. He is not in a race and has built these sets for his family and his own collecting pleasure. We can tell you, these sets would rank EXTREMELY high (we’re not talking 3rd or 4th). EVERY coin was handpicked (it is proven that when Legend builds a collection the coins are always the very best). It took 6 years to complete this project. At some point they will be displayed.

Our sincere congratulations to Hedgie! We can’t see this feat being equaled or topped any time soon! We are honored to have been Hedgies exclusive dealer.

NOTE: Legend is always buying high end better PCGS CAC gold (especially Early gold). We will stretch to buy the real rarities we need. Always offer us what you have-save on auction fees and sell us direct!

A MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT-SIMPSON STANDARD SILVER PATTERNS

Our good friend and long time exclusive customer Bob Simpson is is cleaning house again. Before anyone gasps, he is NOT out of the market and is NOT a net seller.  He had been a crazy strong buyer of any thing neat for well over a decade. The value of his collection greatly exceeds Pogue! He bought so many collections and  groups of coins year after year, he never really stopped to look at his holdings. He was having too much fun. So if he sells a group of coins worth $1-$2 million, that is not even 2% of his holdings. Yes, folks, he is in a very rarified orbit.

Legend Numismatics and Legend Auctions are proud to announce the  #1 Collection of Standard Silver Patterns in the world (The Bob Simpson Collection) is now being broken up and we will be offering it for sale individually via web site and auctions. These are NOT duplicates. These are the actual coins from the greatest Pattern Collection EVER assembled!  There are 173 coins total.

The Standard Silvers were never one of Mr Simpsons favorite designs. He only had them because of the huge $36,000,000.00 deal of Patterns we purchased in 2008 (which he actually bought the collection to get the Amazonian Set and Gold Patterns). For a while he was adding to the set, but he struggled to maintain his interest. In the end, he just was not a fan. For years now he busted our chops about selling the Standards (we never understood why, these are beautiful coins). Apparently, he finally found the time to go through them and do what he likes to do when a coin has worn out its stay: “fire it”. We assure you, this is his entire Standard Pattern Collection, he kept NONE.

Included are many of the FINEST EVER Standard Silver Patterns. Several are unique. These coins will be sold through both Legend Numismatics and Legend Auctions.  Here is an opportunity to buy some great Patterns of coins that could have been-all from the finest EVER collection!

NOTE: NO other Simpson Patterns are for sale or are being planned for sale.

Want to own a few Standard Patterns but don’t really know which ones to buy? Let us build you a 10C, 25C, 50C Type set. In PR64/65 it should cost around $10,000.00 for 3 really nice handpicked GEMS that most rank among the finest known.

NEWPS

As mentioned above, we are offering a few of the Standard Silver Patterns from the Bob Simpson Collection. We’ve selected the some outstanding examples-including the absolute FINEST Standard Quarter Pattern that exists!  He had first dibs on the Denali Collection when we bought it (which is where the coin is from)-so this coin has not seen the light of day for MANY years!

We have also taken the Liberty to put together and offer a 10C, 25C, 50C high grade set of Standing Silver Patterns. These coins are the “best of the best” of the Simpson Standard Patterns. All the hard work has been done for you! The price is really sweet too.

Of course we have other coins to offer as well. This weeks other highlights include:

50C  1945S PCGS MS67+ CAC  The single FINEST graded!

$10  1797 LE PCGS AU50 CAC

Of course we did our very best to include coins for all tastes and budgets.
